The funeral for my grandparents was this weekend. The most moving part was the poems my younger sister wrote and read at the graveside. I remember... She really touched on who my grandparents were for people. I was very proud of her. She is generally pretty shy and was really distraught during the service, but read the poems without crying and slowly and loudly so that everyone could hear. Fortunately Jay had lent me a handkercheif because I stood with her when she read it and I didn't make it through without crying.
It was lovely to see family. All of their kids and grandkids and great grandkids had been able to visit them in their final weeks and all but my cousin in the Navy who is on a submarine somewhere made it to the funeral.
My brother spent the weekend with us in Arlington. It was nice to have him for a visit. It was the first time he had visited me here.
In happier news, DrChickon's new bundle of joy arrived this weekend. I am so excited for them and so happy they are both healthy and well. Also, J's mom got very excited about the idea of moving to an assisted living community in Lawrence. That means we will be in the same city as her instead of a 2 hour drive away. He and the sibs had all reached the conclusion that she needed additional help, and were dreading having the conversation. His sister K brought up the idea and now she is so excited about living near 4 of her kids at a place that will take her to the theater that it is all she talks about. We are very relieved.
