No more UA flights for you, young man!

Grrr. I was wondering why the check-in queue at the United counter at the airport was so long. I originally planned to get there 2 hours before my flight but upon a friend's advice, I got there 3 hours before, and still I had to wait 2 freaking hours in line before I could get my boarding passes. >.<

Apparently there was some mechanical failure on the plane and it was delayed by 2.5 hours. Again, that meant that my connecting flight was gone since it only had a 45-minute transit window. >.> Oh, why the hell do they allow bookings with such short windows? Darn United Airlines. Since there were so few UA flights out of this place (probably 1 per day?) to ORD, they had to re-book almost everyone in line for new connecting flights. Some teenagers travelling alone or in pairs were more complex; flight agents had to call up their parents to let them know that their kids will be staying overnight here, or delayed there, etc. Me? I should have been back by about 10:15 pm last night; instead I had to stay overnight in ORD to catch an 8 am flight back home. I reached home at about noon today instead. I'm glad I had 4th of July as padding to rest, so at least I don't have to go to work immediately.

One good thing out of all of this is that I was able to spend a night at the Hilton, paid for by the airline. I also got food vouchers as well, though they didn't pay much for my expensive dinner at the Hilton's restaurant. ^^;; Also, GD got off work around the time I was done with checking in my luggage so she accompanied me for lunch and escorted me to the boarding gate (she works in security at the airport ^^;; ).

Next time I fly anywhere, I'm gonna make sure of at least two things:
1) At least 2 hours transit window between flights
2) Avoid UA at all costs
3) Optional: Join an airline premier club so I can wait comfortably at the airport in case of delays
4) Optional: Go first class if possible >O (this is very unlikely to be achieved in the near future)

travel, rant
