It's ironic. Yesterday I spent the night researching other people's backup strategies for the data on their PCs and trying to come up with my own. Then today I find that
nakaemi's hard drive failed after struggling for so long. It really drives home the point that a good backup (or insurance), even if tedious and has a cost (e.g. time, money), will keep one sane when disaster hits.
I've always had a very simple backup solution for my data, but now my plan is for an automated on-site backup solution together with a manual, or possibly more automated off-site backup so that if a volcano erupts or an earthquake hits or a fire burns or a theft occurs (or worse, a nuke detonates or a war starts), my precious precious data will be recoverable. My life is so digital that losing my data is almost as bad as losing a loved one. :|
Good luck
nakaemi. Hope you recover your files.
