Monitoring your frequency... [during the away mission]

The team hadn’t been gone more than an hour or two, but this away mission worried Nyota. She could feel Spock’s discomfort through the bond, could have pointed to the emergence of that feeling as the moment he had beamed down into the fierce cold. The situation on Dayoumir VII was dire at the best of times, judging by the reports they had received from Starfleet. Considering she and George had yet to make any contact with the colonists, Nyota suspected something had gone badly wrong. She clung to the thought that perhaps the colony was just having communications problems, and they would either get through eventually or the landing team would find all was otherwise well and return soon. It was preferable to thinking about all of the things that could have gone wrong.

Nyota stood near George, who was seated at the communications console. Technically, her shift had ended, but she couldn’t make herself leave. Not with Spock down there. And Jim and Leo… she sighed, resting a hand on George’s shoulder. “Anything yet?”
