imafarmgirl posted this in her journal for Invisible Illness Week, so I decided I'd do the same.
1. The illness I live with is: Depression
2. I was diagnosed with it in the year: 2005ish
3. But I had symptoms since: I was a kid; probably since I moved to North America in 1991
4. The biggest adjustment I’ve had to make is: Making time to go to doctors appointments and counseling, etc
5. Most people assume: I'm sad or something when I tell them I have depression. I'm not sad. I'm just tired and I don't want to do anything. Sleep is awesome. So awesome.
6. The hardest part about mornings are: Being awake.
7. My favorite medical TV show is: Mystery Diagnosis
8. A gadget I couldn’t live without is: Computer. Hands down.
9. The hardest part about nights are: Not being able to fall asleep even though I'm really tired. Or grinding my teeth and being in the pain because of it.
10. Each day I take __ pills & vitamins. Just 3 pills but they keep me from being super irritable so I'm fine with that.(No comments, please)
11. Regarding alternative treatments I: have tried exercising, being social, etc. I hate exercising. I don't get the runner's high. I just get annoyed. Stop telling me to exercise.
12. If I had to choose between an invisible illness or visible I would choose: Depends on the illness. The good thing about the invisible illness is that I may not face as much discrimination but the bad thing is people don't take you seriously or they think you're exaggerating/faking it.
13. Regarding working and career: I'm working temporarily right now. It's tiring. I am pretty much pooped by the end of the day. I'm also volunteering but sucking at it because of how tired work gets me. Sigh.
14. People would be surprised to know: That I'm really happy with my life and I feel so lucky to have everything that I have.
15. The hardest thing to accept about my new reality has been: the fact that I need to stay alive even when I don't want to be.
16. Something I never thought I could do with my illness that I did was: Graduate with a degree. w00t?
17. The commercials about my illness: I don't watch them.
18. Something I really miss doing since I was diagnosed is: Not yawning all the time because of the stupid side effects. Not having to go to appointments all the time.
19. It was really hard to have to give up: I don't think I've had to give up anything huge. At least I can't think of anything right now.
20. A new hobby I have taken up since my diagnosis is: Makeup.
21. If I could have one day of feeling normal again I would: not know what it would be like.
22. My illness has taught me: to get through the day one day at a time.
23. Want to know a secret? One thing people say that gets under my skin is: "Just snap out of it." UGH!!! Eff you! YOU snap out of it. Asshole. Or "you just need to make more friends." aginjas;oeigtusj
24. But I love it when people: Give me hugs, ask me questions, spend time with me, or buy me food. Hehehe food.
25. My favorite motto, scripture, quote that gets me through tough times is: "Is this going to be forever?" "No." - David After Dentist
26. When someone is diagnosed I’d like to tell them: Don't let people minimize your problems.
27. Something that has surprised me about living with an illness is: Most people think I'm fine.
28. The nicest thing someone did for me when I wasn’t feeling well was: Stay at my bedside for the entire time I was in the ICU (thanks mom).
29. I’m involved with Invisible Illness Week because: I want people to be aware of invisible illnesses and feel validated for feeling the way they do.
30. The fact that you read this list makes me feel: Happy that you wanted to learn more about me and my invisible illness :)
