once upon a time i had a sprouting sweet potato that i took from a friend whose neglect had made the sprouts rise from this root vegetable.
here he is right here in his youth.
i planted him in the tiny yard in my old apartment's background.
and grew he did, into bright greens vines that laid low on the ground.
but when the cold hit. the vines shriveled and browned and died. but i hope he sprouts again for the next tenants.
i can say the end results of the sweet potato experiment and what i let happen to a former co-workers extremely low maintenance plant (water once a week; i couldn't handle that) have discouraged me from caring for and bring home live plants. i'm participating in
Apartment Therapy's Home Cure and it's telling me to buy fresh flowers every week. something me as a "cold" person should especially do.
ain't gonna happen. i did however add more dried plants to my home. i find that i'm comfortable with dead and dried.
i had these garlic stems (this is what shoots out of the ground at the tops of garlic bulbs i think)
and these are the ones i bought. beautiful no?
the home cure is what i've been up to mostly. fixing things here and there. spending my evenings reading a few pages of the book, making shopping lists, staring at inspiring photos that are really making me rethink this home-owning phobia i have.
it's april and the weather has finally turned for the better so i don't spend all my time indoors. when i'm stuck at home, i throw my front door wide open because my windows won't open. i ride my bike- for fun. i forget how good it feels to ride without a destination in mind. without my backpack for work. just me, my keys, and the savannah streets.
i've been working on my bike along with my apartment because he's just as important as my living space. (yes i personify my bike. if guys can do it to their toys, so can i!) it's my main mode of transportation and i shouldn't neglect him like i have. i'm looking forward to posting before, during, and after photos of the work i have planned for him.
