started off the new year on the right foot
and the left foot
both tucked neatly underneath the warmth of two quilts and a sheet for over fifteen hours.
didn't get out of bed till almost 6pm. my first meal of the day was processed and kind of bad. far cry from the traditional black eyed peas i'm used to. spending so much time in bed, finally catching twilight zone episodes i've never seen, gave me a lot of time to reflect on the past year.
my life:
best1. my mother survived breast cancer. clean bill of health delivered on valentine's day
2. i began swim lessons and left off learning backstroke
3. finally saw depeche mode in concert
4. finally saw a bit of the west coast
5. started driving on my own and i'm still alive
6. i can sort of make my private student loan payments
worst
1. close friends leaving savannah (and with that there went my social life)
2. the great birth control tragedy
music:
best
1. pandora. it has its issues but i'm back on track with doing what i do best which is actually listening to the music you hear in commercials. that obnoxious shit in that palm pixi commercial is "sleepyhead" by uber cute electronic rock thing band called
2. passion pit. and there's phoenix, peter bjorn and john, and a slew of other bands that i started listening to this year. bands and artists that i'd never really bother with a year ago. like regina spektor. bah.
3. putting names to all the electro i was hearing in 08
4. vocalist Karin Andersson (fever ray/the knife)
5. album of the year? phoenix "wolfgang amadeus phoenix"
worst
1. placebo "battle for the sun"
2. a noticeable lack of strong standout albums i kept on my mp3 player for longer than a few months.
3. MJ's passing. will i ever get over this?
television:
best
1. dexter
honorable mention: bored to death. i want to eat jason schwartzman's adorable little nose.
worst
1. heroes... but damn do i still have a thing for a one mister zachary quinto
top films in order
1. star trek. while every one else is shitting themselves over the sci-fi retelling of pocohontas with blue people on a ficticious planet, super cool visual effects and 3D shenanigans that thinly veil a weak script, plot, and unenthused acting, i'll choose the sci-fi film that was actually fun and exciting, and not a total fucking bore.
2. paranormal activity
3. (500) days of summer
4. this is it
no use dredging up the painful memories of all the shit films i saw this year. too many to list...
2009 was a strange year. it was rather unremarkable and marred with strife. hello jobless rate, whipped and cowardly democrats, all those celebrity deaths... golly, what were the positives? i think i should close the door and bid thee adieu.
