It wasn’t the first time Phoebe had been allowed to stay with Claire and Hiro overnight but it was the first night that they had any inclination that there was something different about her. Not anything bad but just different in the same way they were different.

Hiro looks at her. "A ball of shadows? Was it just, perhaps, a black ball she brought with her?" Not that he remembered her bringing any toys. Usually she kept her toys here so that the bullies at the orphanage wouldn't steal them from her. Maybe it came from the orphanage?

"Even if it was a ball that she brought, it was floating between her hands, Hiro." She shook her head a little. "She wasn't even touching it and it was floating."

"She must have an ability. Psychokinesis?" He's about to pop up from the couch and go tell her that she's not alone, but he sits right down. "How do we tell her? Will she be angry because we did not tell her right away?"

"I don't know, we'd have to ask Mohinder if he knows what it is." She wets her lips as she watches him get to his feet before sitting down again. "I don't know. Maybe she'll understand? I mean, maybe it'll be a relief to know she's not alone?"

"Do you think she is on Dr. Suresh's list?" He gently takes her hands. "I would think it would be a relief that she is not alone, but, at the same time, I could see where she might get upset not knowing right away. Is she still awake?"

"I don't know, she's fairly young. It's possible that she isn't." She shakes her head before sighing, nodding. "I think she might be. I was going to say something to her but I didn't know what."

"Let us see if she is awake first. I think we should tell her." Part of him is scared to death, but he wants her to feel they won't lie to her.

Claire is nervous too and it's apparent on her features as she takes his hand, following him. "What if she gets scared?"

"We will try to calm her fears. Perhaps she will feel safer with Molly if she is afraid, but we will see what she says first. That is all we can do."

"Okay." Suddenly worried about rejection, she watches as they reach the bedroom door and she knocks gently before hearing Phoebe call out softly.

Hiro's hand squeezes hers reassuringly as he waits for Phoebe to either invite them into the room or to come out.

The door opens a bit and Phoebe peeks around the corner, looking at them curiously. "Was I being loud?" She looks worried.

"Oh no," Hiro smiles. "However, we do need to talk to you about something." He is trying to keep his expression gentle so as not to worry her. But he knows that like most kids, she's probably worried about what they want to "talk" about.

And Phoebe does look worried as she steps back, looking at them both. "About what?" A bunch of different fears run through her features.

Wanting to comfort her, Claire moves into the room to pick up the little girl before moving over to sit on the bed. "It's nothing bad, we promise."

"No, no, it is not bad." Obviously his smile isn't working, but it doesn't stop him from trying.

"What's wrong? You look like there's something wrong." Phoebe is clearly getting a little more worried.

"No, not wrong." Claire glances quickly at Hiro for some kind of guidance before she looks at the girl again, rubbing a hand gently over her back. "Earlier, when I looked in here, I saw you playing. You had something in your hands..." She didn't know how to explain what she was trying to say.
