[Claire's bored with immortality, and wants to pull a Bonnie and Clyde, who's her Clyde, and just what does she do.]
Adam should have probably told her no.
It was one of those ideas that should have been discouraged right from the start but there was no denying that it was quite interesting. Plus Claire was quite convincing when she wanted to be and Adam hated to say no to her. Well, no, he enjoyed it at times but there had been no point in saying no this time.
Especially when her smile lit up the room like the sun had come out in full force. This was especially impressive with the fact that red lights were flashing over the room they were standing in. Not that Claire minded, really. She didn’t even seem to notice the alarms that were blaring and deafening them both as she drove her elbow into another glass counter. Adam watched as blades of glass cut through her arm but it didn’t slow her down for one minute since she couldn’t feel the pain anyhow.
“This is pretty.” Claire remarked, lifting up a delicate silver chain that bore a beautiful diamond that was roughly the size of a baby’s fist.
“You should take it then.” Adam decided with a smirk as he picked his way over the broken glass and the body of the unconscious guard. As he stopped in front of her, he plucked the necklace from her hand to undo the clasp so he could put the chain around her neck.
She watched with a small smile as the diamond settled between her breasts, feeling cold and large against her skin as his heated touch brushed against the back of her neck. The combination made her shiver as she pressed closer to him, her breath hitching just a bit. He seemed to notice the move right away, his smirk growing and taking on a cocky hint as he looked down at her. She knew that look in his eye and she had to laugh. “We don’t have time for that.”
“We could make time.” He murmured, dropping his head down to brush his mouth along her jawline.
“No, we can’t.” Of course it was tempting, especially when he started to kiss along the curve of her neck. “The cops will be here soon.”
He was about to argue with her but he could hear the sirens in the distance and he knew she was right. It wasn’t the time to get caught yet. “Fine.” He straightened while looking around. “Anything else you want?”
Claire considered the bag in her hand, testing the weight with a jiggle of her hand before shaking her head. “No, I think I’ve got everything I want.”
“What’s next then?” He slipped his hand down her arm, enjoying the shiver it caused as he took her elbow and propelled her towards the back where they had come in.
“We could always use a bit more money, right?”
His chuckle was low with amusement because money was really the last thing they needed but he couldn’t say no. “Then let’s find a bank.” He nodded, leading her outside to their getaway car.
Not that they made it to a bank though. Before they could make their escape, the police caught them. Not right outside the jewellery store they had just stolen from but they did catch them after a high speed chase that took them to the edge of town. When the police shot out the tires of their car, Claire and Adam knew they were in trouble. Not that they really considered it a bad thing as the car skidded to a stop when he slammed on the brakes.
“You know we’re not getting out of this, right?” Adam looked over at her before glancing up at the rear view mirror where he could see the police cars were slowing to surround them.
“We kind of figured we wouldn’t, right?” Claire shrugged a little bit as she glanced over her shoulder out the back window before looking back at him again. “Are you ready for this?”
“Not yet.” He shook his head before reaching for her to pull her flush against him. She didn’t complain one bit as she curled an arm around his shoulders, closing her eyes as he kissed her. It wasn’t a gentle kiss; it was more of making a claim and a promise in one breath as he stole hers. She made a soft noise, ignoring the sound of the voice over the bullhorn because she didn’t feel like getting out of the car in that moment. When Adam finally pulled back, she was disappointed and she let it show in a slight pout as they pulled apart. “Now I am.”
When they got out of the car, they didn’t have a weapon on them but they didn’t let the police know that. All it took was for Adam to reach for the inside of his jacket and every cop that had a gun aimed on them fired. Claire was barely aware of each bullet slamming into her as the memory of watching Adam fall would be forever burnt into her mind. It was the last thing she thought of before the world went dark.
The world was still dark when she came to with a sharp gasp and a shudder of her now healed body. Tilting her head back, she couldn’t help but frown as she tried to place where the hell she was. It was longer than she was tall but it was narrow which meant it made her feel rather closed in. There was also just a sheet covering her rather naked form and so she was aware of how cold it was as she moved a little, trying to roll over. As soon as she tried, light flooded the small area, blinding her.
Before she could tell what was going on, her world was moving as the sound of metal grinding against metal filled her ears. Blinking rapidly, she looked up at the figure leaning over her and then chuckled. “You’re slow.”
“You’re slower.” Adam smirked down at her, leaning against the door where she was being stored.
“Sorry, I’m not ancient.” She teased him, sitting up as she wrapped the sheet more fully around her frame.
“You don’t need to get dressed on my account.” The smirk he gave her was decidedly cocky.
“I do if we want to get out of here.” Claire punched his shoulder lightly as she swung her legs over the side of the metal slab before reaching out to get his help so she could hop down.
“What a shame.” Adam murmured before leaning forward to kiss her quickly. “Let’s go, my little Bonnie. Our chariot awaits us.”
“So I take it you know how to get us out of here without getting caught?” She kissed him back before straightening out her sheet, glancing around the morgue.
“I know a few ways.” He admitted.
“I take it this isn’t a first for you?” Claire focused on him again, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
“No but it’s the best time yet.” He replied, trying to charm her. As if he needed to.
They were near the door when he stopped her again, swooping up behind her as he brought something over her head and around her neck. As she felt the cold diamond settle against her breasts, she looked down to the necklace that she had taken from the jewellery store. The very one she thought she wouldn’t see again. “Where did you get this?” She gasped, twirling around to face him.
“Nobody had come for it yet.” He gave her a sly smirk before catching her as she launched herself at him. He nearly stumbled as she pressed her mouth to his while murmuring something that could have been along the lines of thanking him. Then of course she lingered a little as she nibbled over her bottom lip, her sharp teeth tugging at the plump flesh.
“We don’t have time.” He groaned, settling his hands on her hips.
“We could make time.” She echoed his earlier sentiment.
“We could.” It was a very tempting idea of course, especially as she moved her teeth to play lightly over his collarbone. She knew how to mark him without really trying. “But we need to leave now.”
His stubborn attempt to get them out of there earned him a little huff as she pulled back. “Fine.”
“Don’t fret, love. I have a very big boat waiting for us.” He chuckled, wrapping an arm around her as she pressed against his side.
“Do you, really?” She smiled up at him as they made their way down a long hallway. “Good, I’ve been waiting to use all the bathing suits I bought.”
“That’s exactly what I was thinking.”
