[clearly just crack here. Its a requested fic where Claire is a little kid, the same age as a little Molly.]
Claire sat quietly, her little nose wrinkled as she watched with a little bit of distaste as the other kids played. They were mostly boys! Why would she want to play with them?!
She heaved a little sigh as she kicked her feet, glancing at new shoes that her mommy had bought her for the birthday party. They were shiny and black, kind of like her daddy's shoes when they were new but hers were cuter. Daddy never kept his shoes clean for long, they always seemed to be dirty when he got home. It always made mommy a little annoyed as she asked him what in the world he was running through when he was off on business trips. "How does a paper salesman get so dirty?" Her mom always sounded exasperated whenever she asked that.
"Claire, sweetie, come here." Her mom called out, catching her attention as the little blond looked up from where she was sitting. She slid off of the chair then, giving the boys a wide berth as she moved towards her mom with quick steps as though she was worried that the boys would touch her. They did have cooties after all!
"Yes mommy?" She asked then, smiling up her the older blond lady.
"Mrs. Hendrickson's niece is here, why don't you go say hi to her?" Sandra turned, pointing to the woman who was throwing the birthday party for her son and Claire could see a small dark haired girl who was peeking out at her from behind her aunt.
Claire was intrigued, so she skirted around her mommy as she edged towards the little brunette who was watching her curiously even while she hugged her aunt's leg a little tighter. So Claire smiled more, her best pretty smile as she moved closer and then waved a little bit, "Hi!"
"Hi." She got a giggled response as the girl ducked out of sight for a minute and then she peeked back around. "I'm Molly."
"I'm Claire." The little blond girl smiled a little more, she liked Molly's brown eyes and hair. "Do you want to play? I don't want to play with the boys, they're being noisy." She wrinkled her nose a little bit.
Molly looked over at the boys, assessing the situation before wrinkling her nose up in a similar fashion and then she nodded, "Okay. I brought some of my dollies."
"Oh, my mommy wouldn't let me bring my dollies. She thought the boys would wreck them." She giggled, glancing back at her mommy who looked amused as she helped to set up some food on the counter.
"Come on!" Molly suddenly darted out, grabbing Claire's hand, their little fingers wrapping around each others as the brunette dragged the little blond towards the stairs. They giggled as they climbed the stairs as quickly as they could, trying to get away before the boys could follow to see what they were doing. They got to a rather nice room with a big bed and Claire could see a small suitcase sitting on top of the bed, and then another bag that was opened and she could see some Barbies waiting for them.
"Oh, this one is very pretty." Claire reached for a dark haired one as she scrambled up onto the bed, not really thinking about her pink dress that her mommy had put on her.
"I like this one, she has hair like yours." Molly held up a blonde Barbie, smiling widely at Claire.
"Oh! You have a long hair Barbie." Claire practically squealed as she picked up the doll with hair practically to her feet. "I had one of these but I cut her hair when it got all tangled, mommy was dis...disappointed." She managed to work out the word, pouting just for a minute before she smiled once more. "I like you, Molly. Do you want to be friends with me?"
"Yes." The little brunette smiled shyly, nodding as she crossed her legs.
"Good." Claire smiled, pleased with the idea that she had a new friend. They sat on the bed then, ignoring the noise downstairs as they played with the Barbies. It turned out to be a good birthday party after all.
