“It is the ability to choose which makes us human.” -Madeleine L'Engle

Human.

It was clear that the hunter didn't see them that way.  He saw them as animals, as monsters that needed to be rounded up and locked away.  Probably even killed, she could tell that was his desire when he pressed his gun to the back of her head.  She didn't want anything to do with Nathan anymore, she didn't know the man that she had never really known but she could be relieved when he stepped in to stop the hunter from killing her.  Though there was a part of her that wanted to take the gun and bury a bullet between the Hunter's eyes; mainly because he compared her to Sylar.  For the first time in a couple months, she hoped Sylar was alive and that the Hunter came face to face with him; if he wanted to see a monster, he would see one if he faced Sylar.

But it wouldn't matter to the Hunter of course; he looked at them all the same way that he would look at Sylar.  It didn't matter to him that they didn't see themselves that way, they didn't understand why they needed to be caged up for being different.  It wasn't like they had chosen these abilities and yet they were being punished; not seen as human.

She struggled with her humanity at times, especially since the attack and the lack of pain but she didn't think she was a monster.  She wasn't sure what she was yet, she had to ask herself every day but she didn't deserve to be in a cage.  The only reason she wasn't being locked up was because of who her father was, version one and version two.  They were protecting her but it came with a price, she had to pretend like she didn't know what was happening while family and friends disappeared to be taken God knew where.

Another choice that they really didn't have.  Most would say they could choose to fight or lay down but she knew most of them, maybe not well but she knew enough to know that they would never just lay down.  They would choose to fight for themselves and their humanity; they would fight against those that would take the choice from them all.  They would fight against those that would lock them away and treat them like animals.

In her eyes, that made them more human than the Hunter and his men.
