Johnny Weir press conference
So Johnny gave a press conference today in Vancouver (4:00 PM PST if anyone wanted to know the tiny details) and while we're still waiting for the press conference to be uploaded to icenetwork.com, the blogs are already coming out with information from the press conference. I'll link to the video once it's up, but in the meantime, some highlights from the press conference:
♠ what would Johnny like to say to those two TV announcers guilty of making offensive comments? "I can't say anything mean. I mean, I'm totally for freedom of speech and voicing your own opinion. ... it's not a big issue for me that they said it, it's just that I didn't want other kids to have that same issue. ... If I had the chance to sit down with them over a poutine [french fries topped with cheese curd], I think we'd all be like lovely people together."
♣ we all know that Johnny is a Russophile, but what does he think of the quad controversy (a.k.a mini-Cold War between Evan Lysacek and Evgeny Plushenko)?
"[Plushenko] in no way was attacking Evan. ... He just wanted his opinion to be heard and it came off the wrong way."
♥ and what does Johnny have to say about the petition?
"I hope I have the opportunity to skate to Lady Gaga very soon. Hopefully it will come at the World Championships, when I'll vie for the world title, and be able to show the world Ms. Gaga. ... I do want to thank all of my fans for supporting me and trying to get me into the exhibition ... but in general, the top-five are chosen, and I do understand that, and I look forward to performing all around the world this year and bringing Gaga to as many places as possible."
The petition in question (THIS is a petition asking that Johnny be allowed to skate at the Exhibition Gala this Saturday and is still being sent out to the USFSA (and I believe someone(s) in the IOC too) after the petition is closed Thursday morning; if nothing else, the general consensus over on Johnny's Facebook page is that it might garner some more media coverage and make a point that a number of his fans aren't too happy with the current state of affairs.
