AWWW YEAAAHHH
FINALLY BEAT FINAL FANTASY XIII
\o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/
...Yes, I know it's like two years old and the sequel just came out, but IDC WE FINALLY FINISHED IT \o/
WHICH MAKES IT THE FIRST FF GAME THAT I HAVE COMPLETED
AND TO BOOT, I WAS THE ONE TO BEAT THE FINAL THREE BOSSES YEAAAAAH
SAZH/VANILLE/FANG TEAM FTW
But yeah. It's not the first FF game I played -- that would be FFX -- but it's the first one I've played to completion, so BRB FEELING PROUD. lmao meanwhile my sisters have beaten several of them and are in the middle of a couple now, BUT STFU RPGs ARE NOT MY STRENGTH, ESPECIALLY TURN-BASED-ISH ONES, AND FINAL FANTASY IS DOWNRIGHT PSYCHOTIC
Overall, it was a good game. I really enjoyed the battle system, which put a neat spin on basic turn-based and even the traditional real-time FF battle system; it was something I could enjoy, rather than sitting there and fuming and not understanding when a boss suddenly got three more turns added to his side. 'B| GTFO, JECHT
I admit, though, I didn't like the first half of the game -- it had too many long, meaningless cutscenes, and a lot of "GO FROM POINT A TO POINT B BUT AS THE CHARACTERS THAT WE TELL YOU TO BE" scenarios, which just felt really boring and tedious. Once it picked up, though (probably at about the time you meet Raines?), I liked it a lot better.
I'm still not 100% sure of the story -- it's like there were ALL THESE PROBLEMS that the party had to face, but they somehow overcame them despite Certain Doom just because they BELIEVED and had the will to change everything? ...idk, it wasn't bad, but I just got really confused when the plot took random turns without really explaining why. It especially got confusing when the game froze up and forced us to skip entire cutscenes, at which point we'd just look them up on YouTube. That was a pain, let me tell you.
BUT THE ENDIIIIING, OMG, ngl, I got a little teary-eyed. 8'( When Serah and Dahj showed up, and THE LOOK ON SNOW'S FAAAAACE AND LIGHT WAS SMILING AND SLDJFL;SKDJFS THE MUSIC WTF ARE YOU DOING TO ME, SQUARE ENIX

So now I can't listen to "My Hands" without getting a little misty-eyed, I admit -- which makes it... one of four songs total, I think, that are capable of making me cry? IDK BUT IT IS SO PRETTY.
So after beating it, my sisters and I decided to look up FFXIII-2 just because we didn't have to avoid it anymore for fear of spoilers.
Yeaaaah. Er.
It. Well. As Day put it, it's just obviously spin-off material, and it sounds like it falls way short of XIII's potential. Add to the fact that it's positively obsessed with its DLC, has multiple endings, seems to have upped the sexuality of at least two of its female characters, and makes you pay for most of the original party members, and I'm pretty much not interested. At all.
I can't judge it since I haven't played it, but everything I've seen about it just sounds very... bleh. Someone referred to it as being the FF version of Tales of Symphonia 2, and that's actually a startlingly good comparison. :|
THIS IS KIND OF A GOOD THING, THOUGH, BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID I'D SEE IT AND WANT TO PLAY IT AND I KIND OF DON'T WANT TO GET INTO ANOTHER FINAL FANTASY GAME EVER FOR A WHILE, SO.
Whatever.
POINT IS, XIII was good -- not the best game I've played, but I enjoyed it.
