Anderson and Milla both have stated that they've played the Resident Evil games. In fact, he played through RE5 which was his inspiration to come back to the RE movie franchise and direct the fourth movie.

They said this at comic con this last year. :< I was there for it.

I got to talk to him at Comic Con during the Afterlife panel. I asked him now that he's played the games, what was he incorporating into Chris' personality for his version of Chris Redfield.
