Throughout the last six months or so, I've made a ton of new friends, while many older ones have drifted away. The most missed was Alisha; we were the very best of friends last summer. Once school started, I was very busy with volleyball and she with cross country. We stopped seeing movies every Saturday afternoon, then the post-practice bubble tea trips never seemed to happen. Soon enough the phone calls ended, and it seemed like our friendship had hit a dead end when she switched to a different school during semester break. It's not that we didn't make plans, they just never worked out. We'd send text messages about how we needed to hang out so badly, and then they ended too. Tonight we were both supposed to be going to a concert with a huge group of people from my school, but we were both going to be late so we decided to skip it and go somewhere together instead. I feel so happy right now, because I had a lot of fun and all hope really isn't lost for us. We got bubble tea, which I hadn't had since summer, and it was better than ever. Halfway home her mother called and said that it was hailing terribly at home, so she decided to park in a carwash since the storm was coming our way. We ran across the street to buy sandwiches and lemonade, and then sat in the car eating our food and watching the hail hit the ground. It was beautiful; the ice chunks looked like little molecules bouncing and speeding around during a lab in science class.
And sometimes, we need to be reminded how small we really are.
