Normal abnormality

I used to think that what I'd been through was unusual... A real girl who went to a place beyond imagination and came back, just like in storybooks, but that doesn't happen. Not for real. And now that I'm here, I see that there are countless others...

Previously normal people with everyday lives, suddenly not so normal. There are so many of us that it's ordinary to be extraordinary. Maybe we can set up a support group. *laughs*

In turn, a few conversations I've been having have brought up the subject I'd been thinking for a while but couldn't quite put into words. There are those who are supposedly normal, grown and bred in a world where the sky is blue, grass is green and logic is king. Then there are those who are from worlds that are not.

Why all the fascination with normal people? Why are those who live such bizarre and fantastic lives so interested in those who don't? Uh, it's not that I'm begrudging the amiable companionship of rogue_charmer and hooked_on_pan, but it's a valid question. We should be curious about them. This strange pattern has long been established since the tales of the ancient gods who mess up the lives of those "beneath" them.

But some things must remain sacred.
