[Norrington is in the item shop, too, clicking through the settings on an electric fan. 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 1, 3, off. He can even make it blow from side to side. Hmm. But! When he picks it up and turns, intent on bringing the device to his apartment to experiment with, his excitement makes him strangely heedless and he accidentally blows a gust of 3-strong air directly at the kitten and its host. Immediately he apologizes, cycling through the buttons until at last he puts a stop to its infernal gusting.]
Oh! I am sorry. Please, one moment.. There. My apologies.
[Fortunately, Shikamaru had been eying Norrington and that fan out of the corner of his vision and had had the foresight to think that maaaaybe he should put away that deck of cards he was looking through, in case they accidentally blow everywhere.
Wasn't expecting to suddenly find his shoulder full of KITTEN CLAWS though. Should've worn his flak jacket, ow.]
Don't worry about it. [Said with only a touch of sarcasm and irritably.] It's not a big deal.
[He says once his attention is able to shift from the operation of the fan to the damage that he might just have inadvertently caused to this unfortunate young man. His embarrassing leads him to do something that he otherwise probably wouldn't.]
You make it sound so heavy. It's not, really. [He reaches out to grab that deck of cards again, now that the fan is off.] I'm just doing what I should.
[And people accuse him of being serious. But all right.]
Thanks. [He looks at the deck in his hands before pocketing it - he could learn a few more card games.] Same to you, but with that fan you were messing with.
[He holds it in his hand even now, its cord grown taught. It is plugged in to the wall somewhere but he cannot see where for the shelves obstructing his vision of the wall. It is a large thing, too, perhaps two foot tall from its base to the top of the cage that shields its blades.]
It is a touch too cumbersome for my taste, and the inconvenience that this cord poses is not to be denied. Nevertheless it is an impressive thing.
I had planned to give it as a gift. Unfortunately, the recipient would make the best use of it in the open air, and I have never seen one such 'outlet' beyond man-made walls.
Aa. Yeah, I doubt you'll find one out there. [He'd tell him about the wonders of extension cords, but he's never heard of them either. And. The item shop probably doesn't have them.]
I don't know about likely - depends on what's in here right now. I've seen smaller ones before, though. Even one that can fit in your hand.
[He raises the palm of one hand, fingers bent to give an idea of what size he's talking about, before reaching up to pull the kitten off his shoulder and tuck it in his arm.]
Oh! I am sorry. Please, one moment.. There. My apologies.

"That is an energetic creature."

Heh. Small animals are like that, I hear. More energy than fur.

[He'll? It'll? Probably should have gone with it'll. Oh well. He'd better be consistent if nothing else.]
How on earth did you get lumped with her?

[Best friend. He keeps his tone casual though. He misses Chouji, but it's not like he needs to give someone he just met a reason to talk about him.]

Noble of you, then, to take him on. It is good to see a man doing his duty.
[Even so small a duty as this. It speaks of reliability - of honour.]

The cord shouldn't be too troublesome, if you set the fan up somewhere close to an outlet.

Does it need to be that big?

[He hadn't looked, assuming as he did that this was a unique and valuable machine.]
