Oi. What's easy to make for dinner, besides sandwiches and microwave dinners?

[Let's face it - Shikamaru can cook for himself if need be, but Chouji's the food lover. Unfortunately there comes a point where one gets bored of the dishes they know how to make - particularly when those dishes are sandwiches and instant food.

Speaking of instant ( Read more... )

this week's sucked, board games are his weakness, getting tired of junk food, tsinku, shogi totally counts as training, kidnappings are troublesome

[ Lightning is probably even more clueless than Shikamaru is when it comes to cooking in a place like this, but if there's one thing she does know... ]

Oatmeal. Not the kind marked 'instant' at the stores, though.

Does it taste much different?

[By general rule of thumb, most things do. But he has a harder time applying this to oatmeal. 8|a]

Definitely.

[ Of course, she's from a world where everything is naturally really bland, so her sense of taste is probably quite a bit more in-tune with telling that sort of thing than most people's, but... details. ]

All right. Any special way I should make it then?

Just... two parts water to one part oatmeal and, assuming your stove is the same as the one here, cook it on high until it starts bubbling. After that, let it set on medium... about two minutes or so.

[ A pause while she thinks about it... ]

At that point you can stir in an egg too, to cook in the leftover heat after the stove's turned off. And fruit- bananas, or cooked apples work.

Hn. Not that much of a fan of eggs, but fruit sounds good.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm Shikamaru, by the way.

Oh, the egg's more for texture and protein than taste... especially if you mix it pretty well and add something else in. [ Probably should have mentioned that earlier, but oh well. She takes a breath. ]

I'm Lightning.

Heh. Texture is actually half the reason I don't like them much. It's worse if it's a boiled egg... I dunno. It's just kinda weird.
