Title: Donkey Meets Miss Piggy
Rating: PG (mentions death)
Pairings: #15. Miss Piggy (Muppets)/Donkey (Shrek)
Disclaimer: I don't own the Muppets or Shrek. Possible spoilers for the very end of Shrek 2.
Note: This has taken me months to finally finish. I kinda got out of writing but recently starting to get back into it (a little), and I saw I had started this story last fall but never finished. So it's definitely not my best work, I just wanted to finish it, haha. Hope you enjoy it though.
Donkey sat on the grass, staring at his reflection in the pond. The joy that once filled his heart (and came out his mouth) was all but gone. Shrek had tried to cheer up him with stories of their glory days - Donkey appreciated his efforts - but nothing could lift his spirits. His beloved Dragon was dead.
The pair had many years together. Their dronkey babies had grown up and traveled the world as circus performers. Donkey and Dragon were proud of their children, but happy to have time to themselves again.
Unfortunately, their happiness was short-lived. Dragon became sick with some kind of pox and died within a week. Donkey was devastated.
He kept thinking of all the years they spent together, and couldn’t imagine going on without her. Dragon had been the cheese to his macaroni, the Abbott to his Costello... etc. etc. What was he to do?
As Donkey contemplated (more than he ever had in his life), a pig wearing a pink dress, flower hat, and a temper stormed into the clearing. She looked at Donkey, stuck up her nose, and continued to march away. Then she stopped, turned around, and cleared her throat.
“Excuse me, but has a green, irritating (yet handsome) frog been around here?”
Donkey slowly lifted his head. He sighed. “The only green and irritating guy I know is an ogre.”
The pig squinted her eyes. “Are you sure you haven’t seen my Kermie?”
Donkey nodded.
“If you’re lying, I will get very mad.”
“Even madder than you are now?” Donkey wondered. “No wonder he ran off. Whenever my Dragon gets mad, I make sure to stay away from her. She...” He stopped himself and cleared his throat. “I’m sorry. I need to be alone.”
The pig crossed her arms and pursed her lips. “You are very rude.”
“Yeah? Well so are you,” Donkey replied as he began to walk away.
“Wait!” the pig yelled. “Don’t go!”
Donkey turned. “Why?”
“I need someone to talk to. I’m worried about my Kermie.”
Donkey hesitated before he sat down by the pond. The pig joined him.
“My name is Miss Piggy, by the way. I usually don’t talk to donkeys, but as no one else seems to be around...”
“You sure don’t beat around the bush. I like that in a woman.”
“Thank you,” Miss Piggy smiled.
“So, why are you worried about this Kermie fellow?”
“He forgot my birthday.”
“Is that all?”
“He never forgets my birthday. He left our house this morning and didn’t even say anything to me. I’m afraid he doesn’t love me anymore.”
“Miss Piggy, I don’t think he stopped loving you. I think he’s just a guy. We guys forget things a lot, you know.”
“But... but...” Miss Piggy started to tear up. “He wouldn’t forget ME!”
She took out a handkerchief and snorted into it, bawling. Donkey began to tear up himself.
“At least you still have someone.”
Miss Piggy looked up. “What do you mean?”
“My Dragon died.”
“You had a dragon?”
“She was the love of my life. And she died. I wish I just had one more moment with her, to tell her how much she meant to me. I think she knew, but I feel like I never told her enough. And now I’m all alone...” He began to sing. “I’m all alone, there’s no one here beside me...”
“Yes there is, Donkey.”
Donkey snapped out of it and looked at Miss Piggy.
“I’m sorry about your dragon,” she said.
“Thank you,” he replied.
Miss Piggy stood up and brushed herself off.
“I think I’m going to look for my Kermie. Even if he forgot my birthday, I need to tell him that I love his slippery green self. But he is sleeping outside tonight.”
Donkey smiled.
Before they could say their goodbyes, two figures walked towards them. It was Shrek and Kermit.
“KERMIE!” Miss Piggy yelled, running towards him. She gave him a hug so tight that Kermit’s eyes began to bulge out (more than usual).
“Happy birthday, dear,” Kermit smiled.
“You remembered?” she said, surprised. “Oh, you remembered!”
Before she could hug him again, Kermit put his hands up.
“I got you a present, but Shrek accidentally broke it. I’ve been at his place all day trying to come up with another present.”
“Sorry ‘bout that,” said Shrek.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” she squealed.
“I didn’t want you to get mad that I didn’t have anything.”
He handed her a snowglobe... an empty snowglobe.
“There were supposed to be a little frog and a little pig holding hands. They fell out when it broke.”
Miss Piggy looked at the present, back at Kermit, and kissed him on the cheek.
“I love you, Kermie!”
“I love you too!”
They walked out of the clearing, hand in hand.
Donkey and Shrek watched as they walked away. Donkey then turned to Shrek with his head down.
“I’m sorry I haven’t been myself, Shrek.”
Shrek lifted Donkey’s chin.
“Donkey, don’t worry about it. If something happened to Fiona... I wouldn’t be myself either. This isn’t something you can just get over.”
“You’re a good friend, Shrek.”
“Let’s go make you some waffles,” Shrek said.
