Harry Reid screwed American democracy after loudly claiming he was going to fix the abuse of the filibuster. As you can see, from the
Senate's own site, filibusters have happened consistently increased in the last forty years and exploded since 2007, when Republicans became the minority. The filibuster is no longer for those things that are so important to the nation that the exceptional must happen, it's the regular tool of the minority to pervert democracy.
The problem is that the majority could have changed the rules but didn't. Harry Reid has lived too long in the Beltway and thinks of the next time he's in the minority rather than what's right for the rest of us. There shouldn't be 60 votes required in the Senate, the Constitution is very clear on that. What's happening is a bi-partisan abrogation of our Constitution.
