An Italian is killed in Gaza. So, the accused perpetrators, what happened? Killed while Hamas was trying to arrest them. Where's all the shouting from HRW, ISM, AI and the other organizations about Hamas killing a "suspected militant"? Where's the EU hand wringing. A Palestinian terrorist kills a Jew, he's a hero. He kills an Italian, a villian. Same cause, different outcomes. It's a thin line, 'eh?
Then there's the Pal cry for Statehood. Yes, they have a right to declare it whenever they want. That's a given. What should also be a given is the automatic rejection by the international community of such as call. After all, the Arabs were the ones who rejected it in 1948, declaring war. They rejected it with the Three No's in 1967. They've continually rejected it. That they changed their minds doesn't make it appropriate. In fact, it would make it illegal.
The UN Charter makes some critical points.
Preamble: One purpose is "to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours."
Article 1: "To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace."
Art 2, Para 1: "The Organization is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members."
Art2, Para 2: "All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations."
It goes on, but lets remember the Arab line:
1) The Arab League officially says Israel shouldn't exist and should be destroyed
2) The OIC supports the Arab League
3) Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the PFLP all have founding documents saying Israel must be destroyed and that violent methods are key.
Those facts say that the Pals and their Muslim supporters are in direct violation of the UN Charter.
The Pals clearly violate the basic requirement of membership, Art4, Para 1: "Membership in the United Nations is open to all other peace-loving states which accept the obligations contained in the present Charter and, in the judgment of the Organization, are able and willing to carry out these obligations." They would not be declaring a peace loving state and are, therefore, not eligible for membership.
Of course, what should happen never will. Article 6 says "A Member of the United Nations which has persistently violated the Principles contained in the present Charter may be expelled from the Organization by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council." Long ago, all the Arab League nations other than Egypt and Jordan should have been expelled for the clear and persistent violations of the Charter.
However, let's not forget the 57 nation voting block that is the OIC does control a lot of oil. Sadly, they're not going anywhere until the oil runs out.
