More proof of the 1.5 party system

Democratic Senate Candidate (FL) Jeff Greene is another multimillionaire who decided the most interesting act of conspicuous consumption would be to buy a Senate seat. Corporations and the wealthy do it all the time.

It seems he owns an enormous yacht. It seems that, in 2005, his yacht destroyed a large chunk of a well known environmentally important reef in Belize. As reported in the St. Petersburg Times, Belize authorities were more lax then and didn't hold anyone in the incident. There was still a large fine levied.

The case is well documented, yacht personnel are on record stating the incident did happen, and Greene has not yet paid. Worse, his spokesasshole says "Jeff Greene doesn't take a penny of special interest money, so career politicians are attacking him with ridiculous stories about something that didn't even happen five years ago on a boat he wasn't even on." He was correct about Greene not being on the yacht, but it didn't happen?

The very wealthiest people are their own clique, different from the normal person of any political persuasion. Too many think that their money absolves them from any wrong, since being rich is proof they're always right. They work together to lower taxes for the wealthy, give large businesses the same, destroy regulations that lead to safety for the masses, and do other things that show their solidarity against the rest of us. And, if we speak up, we're the ones starting a class war.

You would think a Democrat would be pro-environment and might distance himself from the Republican hypocrisies that created the current economic disaster. But Greene shows that global and social priorities come after his own ego.

He is another example of why I've been voting more and more for third party candidates. Until more people do, the two big parties will continue to circle the wagons to protect the wealth of the people who have the most. Being rich isn't a crime, but neither is it carte blanche.
