Wait. huh? But, then, why?

Olmert's team has been cross examining Talansky in the cash-and-carry investigation. Olmert's our PM. Talansky is an American Jewish businessman who gave Olmert cash in envelopes. The AG has been investigating if it was illegal, while Olmert's claiming all cash was duly recorded.

Charges haven't been filed. Rather than depositions, there's a quasi-trial process where both sides get to ask questions of witnesses in front of a judge. This is the third day of Olmert's questioning of Talansky. The defense tactic has been very clear. The lawyers are portraying Talansky as a non-trustworthy person who couldn't possibly be telling the truth. They're trying to destroy his credibility.

So, any of y'all figured out the bit of confusion there? It's pretty clear. If the guy's so obviously untrustworthy, why, exactly, did Olmert accept envelopes of cash from him in the first place?
