I've finally had the perfect day that I've been looking for, not to mention needing. It was David's first day off in a while and Lee's birthday so a bunch of us took advantage of the beautiful day outside. We all went to Dodge beach for some basking in the sun and swimming. Surprise, surprise I didn't get sunburned either! To have everyone together and not at David's house for once was nice and added to the excitement I think. It's kind of funny now that I think of it, because David and I were like a scene out of a bad romantic comedy. We went swimming together a couple of times. He tossed me around in the water like a rag doll half the time and then kissed me the other half. We bought ice cream and went for a walk up hill to where the swings are, I've always had a small obsession with swings, and sat on this bench that looked out over the lake. The view was picturesque. The tree branches created their own picture frame, which left us looking through to see the world in front of us. In the bottom of the frame was the still water that separated our hill from the peninsula. It was only big enough to hold a walking trail. We would go there next. The lily pads gave the still water such grace, while the cattails swaying in the breeze guarded its seclusion carefully. Behind the peninsula was the hustle and bustle of the lake. Boats buzzed around creating large white avalanches of wake and snow capped waves behind them. The happy chatter of swimmers off in the distance made me smile. The sun light draped across everything giving it life. David and I just sat there, hand in hand, silent. We didn't need to say anything, the world in front of us said it all. After leaving the bench we followed the weathered steps, which were really just large pieces of wood that had been placed in the ground to make the hill easier to walk down, to the rusted bridge that would end at the peninsula. The walkway had tall walls of trees, many with berries, on both sides, something I wouldn't have realized from the bench. Still hand in hand, David and I walked down the path together. It seemed like there was no one around for miles. Only a few times could I sneak a peek at the still water through the tree wall, but that didn't matter so much to me. What mattered most was that I was with the man I love and we were enjoying our world together. The path ended at the far end of the beach and with every step we took our friends became closer and closer. Our little adventure had taken us full circle, so to speak, and that's when I realized that my life too, had come full circle. Reclaiming our spot on the sand we lay back down so that David can take a nap and I can soak up the last of the sun's rays for that perfect day. There is a smile on my face. I am happy.
