This is sort of tangential to, well, everything, but "don't slam the door" is a pretty useless phrase. Slamming is what the door does, not what you (necessarily) do. The correct phrase is "close the door carefully". This focuses on what action should be taken, and covers cases where the slamming is accidental. Plus, the important word is in the stress position, and will be retained in echoic memory. Truly, this sentence is a work of art.
