I had dinner with my best friend of, gosh, nearly eight years a few weeks ago, and she was enjoying teasing me mercilessly (as she always does), about my eccentricity (my term) or "rampant contrarian pretentiousness" (hers).
The two best quotes from her were:

and, when I'd said that really, I wanted to transition into being a gay, early twentieth intellectual i.e. E.M. Forster
