A weekly icon challenge based on the animanga Bleach, this lyricontest mandates an extra twist: all participants must visibly use three consecutive words from a given song in their icons. They've been going strong for three & a half years, with over 110 challenges posted. Currently, bleachorus has four active moderators - aclara, kohaku_shuurai, senbonzakura77, & snappinshutters - and four active bannermakers.

A weekly icontest community that has been going strong for almost five years, icompete allows icons of all fandoms [or non-fandoms] to be entered, as long as it fits one of the three provided themes per week. kouga_stills
A weekly icon contest community dedicated to iconing Kouga and other characters from the animanga series Inuyasha, kouga_stills has been running for over four years and 130 weeks. Each week, there are two themes: one must be used with a Kouga image, the other applies to another character. It has one moderator, rashiea.

A weekly icontest community featuring icons of all of your favorite female characters from Naruto, kunoichi_stills has very recently passed its' 100 challenge mark. It currently has one active moderator, pixelwater, & two inactive mods, nebulasan & tainee. Also, they have three active bannermakers.
la_corda_hush
A weekly icontest dedicated to creating hush icons made from images from the anime/manga La Corda d'Oro, this community recently passed its second year anniversary. Unlike its' sister community, no text of any kind is allowed on submitted icons. It has four moderators - espana, rashiea, sunfur, & whitelilies22 - and two bannermakers.

A weekly non-animated icontest featuring Marilyn Monroe, monroe_stills has been making glamorous icons befitting the actress for over two years. One theme, centering around given images, is provided per week. It currently has one moderator, grain_de_beaute, five regular bannermakers, and three volunteer bannermakers.
wd_awards
Steadily approaching its' fourth year on Livejournal, wd_awards is an monthly icon nomination community. Drawing nominations from other Disney-centric icontests + participants, winners of categories have custom banners made for them by the mods. Speaking of moderators, the two for this community are crazydd & terza_teabeef.
