my universe will never be the same but i'm glad you came

It wasn't very often tha Rebekah found a present that was guaranteed to intrigue her brother.  She wouldn't say it was a present that would make Elijah smile, not with his morals and his honor code but she knew he would definitely be intrigued but what she had found.  She knew that she was but she hadn't sated her curiosity because she figured he ( Read more... )

Elijah had caught a new scent on the air when Rebekah came home, but given how much she liked to hunt, he didn't think much about it. When she came into the office, he was chatting with a business associate. Since giving up running things for Klaus, he'd found himself a new hobby in running an ... interesting enterprise or two. It couldn't be perfectly legitimate, not with all the fake identities he had to deal with, and, besides, nothing legitimate ever brought you the kind of power he enjoyed, even if it was seemingly without a face.

He gave her a smile before finishing up his conversation. Truthfully, he was still a little surprised she'd come with him instead of staying with Niklaus or going after Kol. He knew he wasn't as much...fun as their brothers, but he did love her, and as much as he'd needed to get away after the things Esther had done, the things he and Rebekah had done, he really hadn't wanted to be alone.

After hanging up, he gave her a small smile again. "Have fun tonight?"

It would have been expected of her to stay with Niklaus and she had no doubt in her mind that their hybrid brother was probably upset at her leaving with Elijah but she didn't care anymore. She had decided to forgive Nik for killing their mother but that didn't mean she wanted to stay and deal with the same things she had dealt with for years till he decided to dagger her. Plus she had no desire to be near the little doppelganger bitch and all her fans who worked so hard to keep her alive.

No, being with Elijah in New York was a much better idea.

"I did." She returned the smile, pleased when he ended his call. "In fact, it was rather interesting." Her eyes danced warmly with her secret as she tilted her head to the side.

"I brought you something."

Elijah had, shockingly, mostly forgiven Niklaus, as well, but he did not want to get sucked back into the life he'd led for too long. He didn't want to just run Niklaus's sho, always been obedient and helpful. He'd enjoyed his time as an autonomous power too much to go back to how it had been, and he'd found himself falling into old patterns too easily.

This was better, then, the two of them on their own. He settled back in his chair, steepling his fingers as he watched her, looking a little amused.

Their ideas of interesting nights were probably different, but he was intrigued by the idea of a gift. "Oh? What did you bring me?"

"No, you're not ruining it." Rebekah moved, uncrossing her legs as she rose to her feet. "I'm not going to just tell you, I want to show you."

Holding out her hand, she wriggled her fingers with a little smirk.

That was intriguing enough to make him stand, moving to take her hand in his. He'd never been very good at resisting her or what she wanted, anyway, and if she wanted to surprise him with something...well. He'd humor her.

"All right, then. Show me."

Rebekah looked pleased as he rose to his feet without much of an argument. Not that she thought he would argue with her but she had at least expected a few more questions before he gave in. Curling her fingers around his, she tugged him along through the house, heading upstairs.

But it wasn't to either of their room that she brought him but to the guest room instead. Pausing, she glanced over at him with a little smile before opening the door and allowing him to go in first.

The girl on the bed was quite still, almost leaving one to believe that she might be dead if it wasn't for the fact that her chest was rising and falling in soft even breaths. Rebekah suspected the petite but curvy frame might please her brother but not as much as the secret that lay beneath the seemingly normal form.

Slipping into the room to stop beside him, she smiled as she watched his initial reaction.

After all they'd been through, he was in the mood to indulge her, to give her whatever he could to try and make her smile and be happy again. Letting her lead, he followed her upstairs, a little surprised about heading toward the guest room.

He stepped in the room when she stepped aside to let him in, giving her a curious look before he caught sight of the girl on the bed. He could hear her breathing as his gaze raked over her. She was pretty, if seemingly a little young, and it was her scent he'd caught when Rebekah came in. There was something...not quite normal about it, though he couldn't put his finger on it.

It sharpened his interest, though, as did the fact that Rebekah had brought her home.

"You..brought me a girl?" he asked, glancing back at her with an arched eyebrow, though that interest still lingered in his gaze. "Have I become so decrepit you didn't think I could find one on my own?"

"Oh come on." Rebekah chuckled, moving to walk around to the side of the bed, her eyes raking over the girl. "You really don't think I'd just bring you any normal girl, do you?" She asked, ignoring the temptation to tease and make fun by pointing out that he was old. Or maybe that he was slower than he used to be ( ... )

Elijah had started forward abruptly when Rebekah produced the knife, ready to protest that the girl didn't deserve to be tortured. His sister's darker proclivities were something he'd accepted, but...that seemed a little extreme.

The words died on his lips when the scent of her blood hit the air--he definitely couldn't speak for a few moments when he saw the wound close.

"...What is she?"

"I don't know." Rebekah slid the knife away, looking over at Elijah with a strange sense of delight. "I thought maybe she was a vampire or a werewolf but she's not as far as I can tell. Beyond that, I don't know ( ... )

Elijah continued to stare at her for a long time, the twisting sensation of excitement running through him a rare thing, and something to be treasured. There was so very little new in this world, so little to intrigue, and this girl...well. She was new, different. He tilted his head, studying her as she moved, listening to her question, to the lack of real fear behind it, then moved to sit on the edge of the bed.

"You're in my home," he told her, all polite calm. "You had an...accident. My sister brought you here. What's your name?"

They were a stunning couple, Claire could see that, but that didn't mean she was just going to warm up to them. Suspicion darkened her green eyes as she looked first to the girl and then to the man who was sitting on the edge of the bed suddenly. Shifting back a bit further, she glanced toward the windows, gauging how far they were from the bed while wondering if she could make it.

Switching her attention back to the man, she took note of the polite tone he was using but she had heard that tone plenty of times.

"I did not have an accident, your sister attacked me." She bit out in a chilly tone, sliding towards the opposite edge of the bed. "And I need to go now."

He could have denied it, but amusement flickered in his eyes for a moment instead. "Yes, well. She can be a bit...precipitous that way. But look at you--you're fine. And that is...exceptionally interesting." His voice was still perfectly polite, even and cultured and without any blatant threat in it.

But there was a sort of hunger in his eyes. He held himself in check so often, but his actions in Mystic Falls had forced him to accept his mother was right. He was as much a monster as any of the others, and sometimes...he got so tired of being good. Especially when it just got him a death sentence along with the others.

"What are you?" he asked, still in that tone of polite interest. He could see her edging away, but he was hardly a concern. There was nothing on this earth faster than he and his siblings. If she made a run for it, she'd find that out.

There was something about that cultured politeness that sent a chill down Claire's spine, especially when she saw the hunger in his eyes and the dangerous little sparkle in the eyes of the one he called his sister. Rebekah watched the events unfold with interest and excitement, already sensing the hunger in Elijah as he continued to speak to the girl.

"I don't know what you mean." The lie rolled off of Claire's tongue as though she had practiced it a million times. "I'm just a girl."

"We already know you can heal, sweetheart." Rebekah replied silkily, moving around to the end of the bed as she watched the other blonde move towards the end of the bed.

There was a dark flicker there as Claire realized they knew what she could deal, her eyes narrowing in annoyance as she slid off the bed to stand up, her eyes flickering towards the window again. It was closer than the door and if she could break through the glass, then she would be free. Injured, briefly, but free.

"And it's fairly useless to lie to us about it," Elijah added, still not moving from where he sat, even when she stood. "My sister is very good at telling when someone's lying. It's her special gift. And I...can hear how your heartbeat jumps." Call them the undead lie detectors or something. He couldn't tell nearly as well with vampires who didn't have jumpy heartbeats, but Rebekah's gift came in handy there.

"If you're thinking about running, I'd advise against it." He took his eyes off of her for a moment to straighten his cuffs. "You're not going anywhere."

And running from predators was never a good idea. It just made them want to chase. But then again, maybe she had no idea just how predatory they were, yet.

"What? She's a human lie detector?" Claire asked dryly, her eyes flickering to the other woman once more but then her eyes flickered to him as she blinked. "You can hear my heartbeat?"

Already she was trying to figure out who and what they were. She was no stranger to predators or people like her trying to capture her and she had always ran from them. so even as he advised her not to run, that's exactly what she tried to do. She took a lunge towards the window but didn't make it far before suddenly she was being slammed into the nearest wall. There was no pain but it did still her breath for a second before she looked up into the sneering features of the blonde sister.

"Don't you listen, he said don't run." Rebekah hissed sharply even if this was all a game.
