If you haven't read it... this contains spoilers.
Pop quiz:
1. Due to unforseen and dangerous circumstances you have been separated from your fiancé for 3 years. You go back to their house and see them outside holding a baby. Do you:
a) Assume they've forgotten about you/thought you were dead/fallen in love with someone else, started a family and are happy, so you go away and leave them to it knowing they are happy
b) Go up to them and see how they're doing
c) As a), but you get incredibly jealous and bitter and so leave them to live their life without you but come back every so often to spy on them and even when they see you and run up to you you run away and hide, letting them think that you are dead and what they saw was just a ghost, then go back when you're both really old and find out it was all a mistake after all and that the baby was in fact left on their doorstep but you never bothered to investigate that because you were so in love with them and they were so in love with you that you just happened to assume the worst and leave them to it, causing both of you to waste your lives in grief, loneliness and bitterness?
C. Of course. Because that is how any sane and rational human being would behave. Clearly.
