Today's weather has been bad. If it wasn't raining it was very cold. However, that did not stop us from touring Tokyo with two young volunteer guides that showed us around, and from having fun!
After meeting them at our hotel lobby, our first destination via the train was the Imperial Palace. We couldn't really see much today.
Other places we have been to :-
Market in Ueno: Not a lot of people were there, probably because of the rain. Most of the market stalls sold fish and other sea creatures. Not the best sight for a vegetarian, but as a tourist it was interesting (an no, no dead dolphins).
Some time later, we had our lunch at a Sumo themed restaurant. Very nice ambiance, and really good food, which was chosen thanks to the help of our Japanese guides. As I said before, finding food it is hard for me, so it is always a pleasure when some one was there to help me find the meatless food.
After the food, we proceeded to the Edo-Tokyo Museum, which shows the evolution of the city of Tokyo, since it was a small village, then a town called Edo, and all the way through the present day.
Then, we took the drive-less new train here in Tokyo, and found ourselves on an island, that used to be a garbage island, but now it is developed into a really nice area. Our first stop there gave us the magnificent view of Tokyo's skyline, and in the second one we visited the Toyota Showroom (really cool cars) and History Garage, where they displayed some cars from years back. Frankly, I found those cars ugly.
After that, we said our goodbyes and we got back to the hotel and started packing. Later, we left the hotel again to find food, but first we stopped again at the Metroplitan Government Building Observatory to take a look at Toky when the sun is set and the lights are on. That was pretty cool, but no "crazy" lights were apparent as I'd half expected.
After that we decided to actually go out since it's our last night here and have dinner at Harajuku Youth Street (of course it helped when we realized today that it is only 3 minutes by train). So there we had a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant there and a desert at the crepe shop. Delicous!
Now I am back in my room and I am beat, almost all packed and sad to leave Japan, but excited about my 48 hours in Singapore...
