Day 106: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Review

I love Westerns.  Watching the white hats go up against the black hats, and the lone Sheriff standing against injustice, because damn it; it’s the right thing to do, was a huge part of my childhood.  I love kung-fu flicks.  Things like honor, family, and doing the right thing all matter in that world.  Plus, people get kicked in the face.  I love ( Read more... )

I accepted the aliens, because this was a shift in genre to late pulp/early SF. It was also just making fun of the 50s, which really does include aliens.

Big goofy smiles indeed.

I just had too many questions walking out of the theater. That, and my dad trying to say something to me every 5 fucking minutes didn't allow me to sit and absorb what I was watching. I might go see it again by myself and see if it improves.

I did get really nervous in the chase scene in the jungle for some reason. And I agree, the vine swinging was just effing stupid.

Skip, it's cool, you can swear here.

What was your dad trying to say to you?

same shit he always does. questions about what people said, random trivia about actors that i probably already know or just don't care about. like when the box with the ark in it got broken, he turns and says (not whispers) "Did you see what that was??" Yes. My eyes perceived it and my brain interpreted the images. It was the freaking Ark

and I felt the effing lent itself to describing how stupid the vine swinging was

bingo on the vines... and i mean, the monkeys are bad enough, but how the hell did shia know how to swing from them? which ones were long and strong enough to swing from? i mean i've seen that ring-swinging event on Gladiators, and it looks like it takes an effin' while to swing a few yards, let alone keep up with moving vehicles across a south american jungle... harumph...

you're grade is spot on. not a bad movie, but just too many WTF moments to really feel like it won me over.

that said, the flick got a HUGE boost when Harrison goes all soft in the shoulders when Marian first walks on screen. It was adorably genuine.

Why does it have to be aliens...

I got the official replica fedora for Christmas and I've been wearing it at least once a week since then. I was almost that guy in the theater wearing it, but cooler heads prevailed ( ... )
