Day 78: Whoo, explosions. Yeah. Whoo.

Apr 26, 2008 00:31

Fuuuck, it’s after midnight, isn’t it?

Christ.

My tolerance has taken a fucking hit, let me tell you.

Okay, Matt, okay, get it together.  Think of something your four readers can talk about in the comments.

Just breathe.

All right, next week Iron Man comes out and we’re officially into the big-budget summer blockbuster season.  Every weekend is an excuse to sit in the dark and see explosions, and I could not be happier.  I love popcorn movies; I love escapism; I love walking out of a theater with a big smile on my face, excited to talk about said explosions.

So I stand on the precipice of mindless indulgence, and I’m fairly certain that I didn’t watch a single movie that won an award that wasn’t “tongue-in-cheek.”  If I go to the movies to be entertained, and you know, read to be moved, am I still taking part in making things worse in the long run?

By not supporting movies that speak to the human condition, am I helping to make everyone dumber?

I don’t even know why.  I like the human condition.  I like being moved and finding out things about the world and myself, I just don’t want to do that in a theater.

I don’t know.  Maybe it’s the other people.

Which means I like the human condition, just not people.

I’m a complicated dude.

Matt

movie, resolution, phoning it in, cop out
