Day 72: A Two Headed Killing Machine: An Army of Two Review

Army of Two is a great example of how important a little TLC is to things like movies and games.  Halo shines so damn bright because what the hell was Bungie before it?  The game put them on the map, and made it one of the most important developers in North America.  You can argue quality, but you can’t deny that after Goldeneye lost its luster, ( Read more... )

I rented it, and I agree with your insight and will add a few more.

The melee system. Wow. What idiot thought that having the melee the same as the primary fire would be a good idea? And it seems to arbitrarily decide the radius in which a melee is possible. Gone are the days of spectacular knife/rifle butt kills, welcome to accidentally shooting him in the chest from three inches away.

Grenades. I'm pretty sure my teammate could whip up an IED with kitchen supplies and throw in the time it takes to select, aim, and throw.

I'll have to disagree with you on the AI, though. Countless times I see enemies just sprinting past me at Olympic medal speeds without regard for where I or my team mate are. I found their idea of flanking just became very irritating when combined with their ability hit me across the map while blind-firing.

Story. Ouch. I know it's only a game, but if you're going to set it in modern day and cater to shooter fans, you could at least get a clue. Terrorists have taken over an aircraft carrier. So... 5000 sailors and Marines just abandoned ship and fled. As did the rest of the carrier battle group. That's one hell of a plan, Hannibal, hope B.A. was the point man on that. A little back story would have really helped there, rather than an off-handed comment by a Senator in a cut-scene.

The weapon purchase screen could have been a lot sexier, too. It honestly looked like something from an N64 game. Rainbow Six Vegas is the undeniable winner when it comes to character customization. By comparison, this is more of a "do you want fries with that?"

Lastly, teammate healing. Most of the time when I went down, I was still exposed to fire. So along comes matey to heal me, but every time he gets hit, he returns fire and the healing process has to restart.

Full of great ideas and promise but it just feels unfinished.

I never had a problem with the AI on either side of the rifle, but I appear to be the only person in the whole world who didn't.

I think the idea of the aircraft carrier was that it was set up by everyone in the government in on the conspiracy to make the military to look bad, so everyone could have been ordered away. I do agree that they should have explained it better. However any reason was wiped away when I realized I would be parachuting on to an aircraft carrier. I mean, Under Siege is one of Siegal's few good movies.

They didn't use a bunch of the buttons! Why not map melee to one of them?!?!

This could have totally been our game to get on Live and dominate with. Stupid EA.
