What is it about alcohol that appeals to us so much? I know for me it's in losing inhibitions. Too often I'll find myself stopping short of something extraordinary because I'm too timid or reserved to explore it completely. We're all trained to react certain ways in certain circumstances and alcohol allows us to think outside our own confinements. Do we depend on it though? Is it absolutely necessary to consume alcohol in order to be what you want to be or to get what you want? Perhaps it's the appeal in having the luxury of two different personalities. Maybe life's too short to live with only one side of yourself. Alcohol engages the side of you that you subconsciously hold back while sober. Alcohol allows you to be yourself and to be further from yourself all at the same time. It allows you to relax and become active in profound and not so profound ways. Being on the other side is a trip to the unknown abyss, with indefinite possibilities, and last time I checked, ambiguity is fun. Alcohol: sometimes it's the only solution for a crestfallen mind, a heart ready to explore, or a personality begging to be let out.
