VA Tech

I can't believe so few people seem to be affected. I can't believe that you could hear about something like that and just brush it off like it's just another news story. I can't believe that you wouldn't feel for them and cry for them and hurt for them. It's not just because Lenni goes to VA Tech that I freaked out when I heard the news. We are so ( Read more... )

i agree that there are a lot of desensitized people out there, but i think it's safe to say that not everyone is when it comes to things like a war being fought a half a world away, or a shooting rampage.

yeah, it may seem kind of weird to suddenly have facebook groups popping up about vtech, but i wonder i think it's a way of showing support. even if it may not directly affect many of us, we still feel somewhat connected. they're our peers. they're human beings.

a couple of us over here were just ripped apart when we heard the news...you just wish you were there to comfort anyone, to do whatever you can to alleviate the pain. but we're here and they're there, so the best we can do is show some sort of solidarity. i spotted plenty of people wearing marroon (one of vtech's colors) today, and a lot of us are praying for them, their families, their friends.

personally, i can't help to think what if it had hit closer to home. earlier this semester there was this terrible car accident that happened right in front of our school, and the wife of one of the faculty members died on the scene. it happened at a busy intersection that nearly everyone on campus uses (seriously.) i heard so many people saying the same thing: it really could have happened to any one of us.

i agree with you, this isn't just another tragic event. it's something to be mourned, not gossiped about. and hopefully it doesn't take another tragedy for some people to get it.

(sorry this was uber long...i got caught up.)
