NAME: Lovino Romano Vargas
CODENAME: N/A
SERIES/SOURCE: Axis Powers Hetalia
AGE: 15
GENDER: Male
ROLE: Student
BACKGROUND:
The older of the Vargas twins, Lovino grew up under the care of his grandfather, Romulus Vargas, a surprisingly young and eccentric man, prone to pick up new member’s of their “family”. Unfortunately, the boys lost both their parents at a very young age, their father a few months before Feliciano was born and their mother giving birth to them.
Life with their Nonno (Grandfather) was… interesting. The man ran a hostel, taking in students from other nations who couldn’t afford to pay a combination of student fees and rent, plus by food and everything else necessary. Therefore Lovino grew up around a lot of different nationalities, even learn some words of the guests language. He’ll refuse to use them though, so don’t ask. As their grandfather was often taking in charity cases, there was rarely enough money for hired help, so it fell to Lovino and Feliciano to do the cleaning, something Feliciano enjoyed, but Lovino was horrible at. He was just too lazy. In the end when he was old enough, his grandfather moved him to helping out in the kitchen, something the boy enjoyed far more.
The years of childhood past like this, Lovino, despite outward appearance, growing up happy. The two brothers were rarely seen apart, though that was more on the behalf of Feliciano never leaving his brother alone. Though at times, Lovino could be just as possessive, scaring off Feli’s potential friends. His little brother was all he had after all, he couldn’t stand the idea of possibly losing him to another, and thus being left all alone. He didn’t understand, and still doesn’t, that no matter how many friends Feliciano has, Lovino will always be his brother.
The emergence of Lovino’s powers was a total surprise to both him and his brother. Not so much his Nonno though. On the way home from school the two boys decided to take a short cut through an alley in the shady part of town, incidentally running into a would be mugger. Or so they thought. Feliciano took off straight away, faster than Lovino could ever run, and Lovino was left behind. As the attacker began approaching he began to shout for help, his cries increasing in volume and pitch until all the glass in the surrounding area shattered. With the sound of that, Lovino opened his eyes, stunned to see the would be mugger stunned. Smart enough to know that he needed to take this chance to run, Lovino fled, and it appeared no one would know about this freak accident that had occurred.
Or so he thought.
It was later that night they came, men in suits, eyes hidden behind shades. Members of a sect, an offshoot of the Sicilian Mafia, who like many others saw mutants as an abomination. They strove to get rid of them, and had been doing so for the
past 60 years.
Once again Feliciano hide, leaving Lovino to face the gun. Just as the trigger was about to be pulled, Nonno Romulus appeared. Shoving the boy behind him, Romulus told him to hide, an order Lovino obeyed. However his hiding spot offered him a perfect view of the ensuring fight between his grandfather and the men. And how his seemingly pacifist grandfather managed to subdue and knock out everyone of the mutants.
His Grandfather was like him, a mutant.
After his grandfather got rid of the thugs, he found Lovino, and knew from the way the boy looked at him, now was the time for answers. So, after fifteen years of silence, Romulus finally told both boys what happened to their father, and what they were.
Like Lovino, their father had been a mutant. Their mother, Romulus’s daughter, however hadn’t been. The gene had been recessive in her, and it was through the twins' father pointing this out, that she, and her unborn children were spared. Their father however had been dragged off, and missing for days. Their mother called her father, and it was he who found him, the man already long dead. The group had not been merciful.
Their grandfather had taken his daughter back with him to Rome, knowing how shattered the woman was. Her husband had been her everything, and now he was gone. And a month later after giving birth to her twins, she was gone, too emotionally drained to try and fight for her life as she bleed out. And the twins were left with their grandfather who once again moved, deciding that while it was unlikely the boys would inherit abilities, it was safer not to risk it, and kept them well away from Sicily.
Both boys now knowing the truth, and Lovino now being in danger, it was decided it was best that he’d be sent away. Romulus had heard of the school in America that was re-opening, and decided that there was where his grandson would go, far away from Italy and the people planning to harm him. Far away where he could learn how to use his ability.
Lovino started packing straight away, both upset and angry that he was being sent away. He felt he was being punished, and thanks to that, refused to say goodbye to his Grandfather when he and Feliciano took Lovino to the airport. Pulling himself out of his brother’s arms, Lovino walked into the gate, only looking back at the last second.
Hours later he arrived at Professors Xavier’s, determined to hate the place and everyone in it.
PERSONALITY:
Lovino can be described as a “Tsundere” character, reacting to displays of affection with anger and violence. He just doesn’t know how to cope with it, unlike his younger brother. But then again, Feliciano can be over affectionate, so neither brother’s perfect.
Lovino’s inability to cope with compliments and affections stems from the fact that as a child, most of the compliments and affection went to his little brother who was more talented, and as most put it “cuter” than Lovino. Because of this, any friends he does make, he tends to be possessive of. In his own special way. Meaning, that while he may insult them, and tell them to go away, he’ll be really really shattered if they do. What can he say? He's grow up with Feliciano, who never did go away, and knew he didn’t mean what he said half the time.
While he’s generally rude to males, around females Lovino becomes, or attempts to be, a charmer. Unfortunately, he’s not very confident, so this leads to stammering and blushing if a female does actually show interest back. He’s just never sure what to do with them, especially since he’s not entirely sure his interest lies in the fairer sex.
Prone to profanity, Lovino has a mouth like a sailor, and will cuss in both Italian and English. He also has a few Spanish swears under his belt, from childhood lessons in the language from a family friend. He’s also a fairly good pickpocket, even though he’s generally clumsy. Usually he just takes things to be spiteful to those he dislikes (I.e. Almost the entire world) and not because he actually wants the object.
APPEARANCE:
Lovino stands at 5’8” (approx 172.7cm), just slightly taller than his younger brother. Though he’s well into his teen years he still possess some baby fat, mainly around his hips. He’s not unfit though, he does exercise enough. It’s simply a combination of his body's natural shape and his diet.
His hair is brown, cut to around his ears and usually worn without any product. He’s a wash and let it dry itself guy. The only significant thing about his hair is this one certain curl that sticks out from the front of his head, on the right side. He shares this strange long curl with his brother, though Feliciano’s is on the left side of his head. He’s very sensitive about this piece of hair, and in fact the hair itself is sensitive. If yanked it will cause him great pain, if stroked or pulled gently it’ll… well. The opposite to pain.
His eyes are a hazel, and depending on the light source can look more brown or more green. He tends to tan easily, his skin being a few shades away from pale, but nowhere near really dark.
POWERS: ‘Audiokinesis’. Lovino’s powers relate to his voice, and with them he can knock people out and possibly kill them, blast out windows and possibly walls and eventually when he has full control of them he should be able to mimic sounds or people to a large degree of success. Right now they’re only good for shattering things and giving headaches. There may be other things that he can do with his voice, but as of now, he doesn’t know about them.
As his powers relate to his voice, any serious damage to his vocal cords will effectively put him out of action. So he has to be extra careful around flu season, and make sure he doesn’t strain his voice. He does have relatively good control over them though, thanks to his year as a church choir boy.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Lovi… isn’t quite straight. He may constantly flirt and dote on women, but he does find men to be attractive. But the chance of him acting on those feelings and ideas is unlikely, due to his religion and self confidence issues. It would take a strong and determined man to break through all his barriers, and get him to trust them enough to pick them over religion. Very few people have that determination.
He’s also pretty clumsy, prone to falling down, knock things down, etc. So it’s not really a surprise that he’s usually got at least one band aid on him somewhere. Shockingly, he’s gotten a lot better since childhood, mainly due to dance lessons he was forced into. Wild and fast Mediterranean dances will do that for you.
