Things I Know

If anyone ever finds this journal, and I am gone from the world, I should apologize for how often I talked about being tired and about my weight. Oh, and about men. The preoccupations of the most curious minds sometimes focus on the most mundane, if not inane, thoughts.

But I'm tired. I'm so tired, in fact, that I'm contemplating a day to play hooky. But then again, I've got a personal day coming and a long weekend in Maine. Kelli and I will be jetting out for a while. I think that's fantastic...and I'm looking so forward to it. I just realized that I have to be to the airport in the middle of the night. I booked this far before I made the move back to Columbiana, so I'll be flying out of Cleveland. No sleep for me unless I spend the night up this way...somehow...I'll get things ironed out.

I know that kids this time of year finally start to settle into school and we're all doing the daily. The kids are all right. I begin to really know them, and they start to get to know me. This is the most shining part of the school year. That's a fact. But my classes have steadily grown since the beginning of the year. I feel like that new teacher again; I remember that my classes grew ALL YEAR LONG when I was brand new. Joe Rico used my class as a total dumping ground for baddies. Now, my classes are the dumping ground for transfer students and honors class dropouts. Things are booming in here.

Much of what is going on in my classroom these days reminds me of being an early teacher. In fact, being short on time is one of them. So now I've got to fly...
