sorry but I think its totally awesome., totally fucking amazing. . hasn't happened for 30 years and started to snow as coming home from the airport after being back east (pretty damn warm in NY)
Rome is a city split in two -- in the center its like a holiday, everybody is out and in a good mood and just generally gleeful and its that holiday feeling that we did not get at all at Christmas, Sleding at Circo massimo..and posing and picture taking.. Then there is the Rome that is panicking and complaining they're not really used to snow, shoveling show driving in snow putting up with snow, so.. actually got a bit tricky a day or two later, as the sun got warmer an noon, melted the snow then it got cold and everything turned to ice and that got tricky... Lots of complaining, finger pointing etc.about plowing. I myself am from NJ and when I was a kid OH SO LONG AGO, it really did snow, freezing rain etc...
What is true is that people in some of the outer neighborhoods got screwed by the idiot friend of Silvio mayor and are pretty snowed in. The guy's an idiot and ignored the warnings of the civil protection and didn't even get any salt for the city...They did hand out about 200 snow shovels though, which was kinda funny.
And the people who live in the mountains in other parts of Italy (oh my beloved Abruzzo) are really in difficulty and seriously snowed it. Normally snows there but not like this..
I'm already in Bucharest (thought the snow would cancel MY flight and give me a few days grace but I am not so lucky) where there really IS snow (they just throw dirt salt and gravel on the snowy streets and get on with it) so Romes 2nd snow storm and closing of schools a day ahead of time. (30 sm snow) just seems a bit silly to this jersey girl. Oddly enough, I am surrounded by way more snow than is in Rome, and I am sort of sad that I am missing the snow in Rome...
