Yeah, it's definitely better to be near others so the ticking doesn't drive you crazy!

As for what you should do...well, I've heard from most people that when they do go home, it's at the exact moment they left, so you don't have to worry about missing anything. That's how it was both times I went home.

It would probably be best not to waste your energy looking for an exit you might not find. Maybe look for a place to stay and figure things out from there?
