ahhhh.....
so about this whole antiques thing... i sent an email to leigh keno... one of the more famous antique dealers... and he wrote me back... heck yes!... im so so so excited! ahhhh!
"Dear Amy, Thank you for your email. I am glad that you are considering a career in Antiques. I would be happy to speak with you at some point regarding advice on entering the field. One option would be to work part time at an auction house or an antique shop. Once you graduate, you could apply for the Sotheby's Works of Art Course here in New York. It is a bit expensive, but is a good opportunity to meet some of the experts in the American Decorative Arts field and to get a sense of what the field is about.
If you are planning a trip to New York, I would be happy to meet with you. In the meantime, you may want to read a book that my brother and I wrote four years ago...." Hidden Treasures", Warner Books, 2000. One chapter discusses how Les and I became involved in the Antiques World and prepared ourselves for what we do today. My office telephone number is 212 734 2381.
This is an exciting field and I do hope that you decide to try it out!

Dear Mr. Keno, Thank you for replying to my email. You have no idea how much I appreciate your time and advice. I have been reading about the Sotheby's Works of Art Course on their website, and it looks very exciting. The more i look into Antiques as a career field I find more and more that interests me. Right now I have only one specific question: what education or skills are most necessary for this field. There are no plans to make a trip to New York at this time. However, I would love to keep in touch with you as I explore the possibilities of this field.
