I can spot DWJ anywhere

 From The Golden Bough:
German peasants throw a knife or a hat at a whirlwind because the is a witch or a wizard in it.
Howl's Moving Castle, the 'Wind to advance an honest mind'? Anyone?
Yeah it so totally is.
Diana mentions The Golden Bough too much in Fire and Hemlock for this to not be exciting.

Last night
eclipse_raewas an absolute darling and took me to Books A Million where my preordered copy of House of Many Ways was waiting for me.

I never thought I'd say this  of DWJ but It wasn't complicated enough.

I'm got this silly paranoid fear that DWJ is in some sort of mental decline ( Thanks for making me scared of this Pterry) and now that I worry, I see signs! For example her telling me repeatedly how clueless Charmain is. Instead of just showing me. (Which she did as well)

But I love the books, dont get me wrong. It's just harder to compliment than to complain.
I got it last night around nine and started it around eleven, finishing at close to two AM.

I love that DWJ is still using the "In Which...." format for her chapter titles although I did not think they were long or funny enough. I loved Sophie and Calcifer and all the High Norlanders but Howl was insufferable and not at all admirable :(

It was so tiny and short when I expected plot twist after plot twist and far far more confused identities. I fell I totally understood it on the first read-through and that's just UNCOOL:.

Perhaps it's just my high expectations ruining it for me, I've been disappointed upon first read through many a time for that very reason.

I hope it's a good book but this and The Game ( The closest novel previous) have just read like really good fan-made attempts to mimic her style and not like true DWJ like ones published in my childhood. Hexwood, Dalemark, Howl's Moving Castle.......

books, stumped, diana wynne jones, in all honesty, buying stuff, waily waily waily
