I've been trying to find this book for ages - -I remember specific scenes but not much of the general story.
There was a haughty princess who loved hats ( I'm guessing on this part I can only remember the next bit)
The princess rejected loads and loads of hat but a man sized lizard who was loved by oll the forest brought in an extraodinary hat and here is the part I really remember butterflies promised to stay on the little curly-cues of reed (or whatever it was) until after the... something else.
She is horrified by the lizard but she has to marry him because he wins the contest and she has to kiss him but when she does his enchantment is broken and he transforms back into a prince.
I know it sounds alot like The Princess and the Frog but trust me, he was a lizard ^.^
I remember the book having absolutely beautiful delicate artwork that had little flyaways and the color pallet of a watercolor.
Would have been read in the early Nineties.
I posted the above summary to
find_a_book and less than a day later I'd ordered it from Amazon - Glee!!!
It's Called
Princess Abigail and the Wonderful Hat
