Cast
Shane Holmes (Natalia Tena) - A former member of the Metropolitan Police Service who was training to enter the Criminal Investigation Department, she suffers a mental breakdown that causes her to drop out. Despite her rather peculiar idiosyncrasies (her roommate Janna Watson believes she might be undiagnosed OCD), she is brilliant and observant, picking up on a lot of details people miss. This helps in the first episode where a murder happens in her apartment building and is originally believed to be suicide.
Dr. Janna Watson (Freema Agyeman) - Janna has recently finished her medical training and is now working at a local hospital. She responds to an ad for a flatmate sent out by Shane and despite almost being scared off by Shane, the landlady forces her to stay a couple of nights. When the murder happens, Janna helps Shane with the case and decides to move in with Shane. In contrast with the eccentric Shane, Janna is collected and often sees herself as Shane's caretaker.
Karen Ells (Catherine Tate) - Karen is Shane and Janna's landlady. She is a rather forceful woman, as seen in the first episode where she forces Janna to stay in Shane's flat. She constantly threatens to thrown Shane out, but never follows up. Despite her constant annoyance with the women of 221B, she rather likes them as residents and shows them affection in strange ways.
DCI Jonathan Doyle (Matt Berry) - A member of the Criminal Investigation Department, he frequents Baker Court whenever some sort of crime breaks out. He remembers Shane from her days as a trainee and is constantly annoyed by her frequent intrusion in police issues.
DC Ben Walker (Michael Fassbender) - Recently promoted to the Criminal Investigation Department, he worked alongside Shane in their days on the Metro and remembers her breakdown that forced her to resign. He has great respect for her detective skills and often trusts her judgement more than Doyle's.
Alexandria Adler (Nicki Clyne) - An American expat who takes a room in 221A after the murder of the former resident. On the surface, she has a bubbly personality, but it hides a rather brilliant and manipulative mind. She gravitates toward Shane, who tries to avoid her considerably. The reasons for her move to London are unknown.
Jacqueline Moriarty (Michelle Ryan) - A former member of the Metro who was arrested after her involvement in a bank robbery. She escaped from prison and has been committing various crimes around London ever since. Shane remembers her from the Metro and often remarks about how brilliant and nefarious she is.
Marion Morstan (Jamie Bamber) - Janna's boyfriend and an aide to the Prime Minister, who doesn't understand why she moved in with a complete stranger instead of him. Despite the sarcastic relationship he has with Shane (she likes to remind him that Marion means 'bitter'), he constantly bails Janna and Shane out of the sticky situations they get in.
