But HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!
I can't believe how many people I hear bitching about this day being a "Hallmark Holiday". Those same people celebrate Christmas without complaints. I guess that's because Christmas still pretends to be a religious holiday - but the truth is its not. The truth is its the same commercialism bullshit that Valentines Day is...
Having said that, I dont feel that way at all. I had a BLAST getting out my construction paper, scissors and glue, and making my boy an authentic, 100% homemade, 100% heartfelt, Valentine's Day card! You see, I have this EXCUSE to do something a little creative, and a little romantic, for the man I love. Do I NEED an excuse? No... last year, on no particularly special day (at least not according to any calendar) I made up a "Nate Appreciation Day". I just felt like doing something nice for him. I spent a lot of time doctoring up a photo of us on the computer, got it professionally printed and framed, and made him a bookmark (yes MADE) for when he wanted to read books while at my place. It was nice. No excuse or special day needed....
However, I do find that Nate needs an excuse to accept my gifts. Perhaps its a guy thing - he feels he should do things for me... so if I want to go out of my way to do something for him; I need an excuse so that he doesn't feel guilty...
Im not sure Im conveying what I mean well enough - hopefully you can look beyond the words and understand the meaning...
And yes, you should make every day special (I hear that a lot too)... but if every day is special, then why gripe about Valentines Day? Should every day be special EXCEPT V-day?
All I want to say - is that Im (perhaps the only person in the world who is) thankful for Valentines Day.
I just needed to get a fresh perspective out there. Everyone has negative things to say about this day (me too, only once has anyone ever done anything for me for V-day) - - - but the point is - - - it CAN be a beautiful day.... just like every other day you spend with the man or woman you love; or any other day that you share with the friends who mean the world to you; or any other day when the sun shines, and the trees grow taller and the earth embraces you and protects you and watches you grow and thrive....
No matter what your love is - I truly hope you enjoy THIS DAY, and every day thereafter, with it glowing in your heart....
