So I was riding to a client's house the other day and when I was going down behind the train station I saw a group of teenaged kids walking away from two kids on bmx bikes. As I begin to ride past the two kids on the bmx bikes I see one is holding a gun. The fact that he was riding his bike with one hand and holding the gun in the other lead me to believe it wasn't very heavy and therefore was a toy.
As I tried to ride around him but he cut me off and told me to stop. He then told me he "didn't want to shoot me" or something and to give him everything I had in my pockets. Here was the kids second mistake. He didn't ask me for my bike or my messenger bag, just the stuff in my pockets.
I told him I didn't have anything in my pockets and began to ride away. He got off his bike ran up to me and grabbed the bottom of my shirt so I stopped again. He repeated that I should give him everything in my pockets. At this point his other friend was just standing by his bike starring at me, he didn't come near me. Mistake number three, he should have used his other friend to help intimidate me.
I repeated that I had nothing in my pockets (which was the truth). He then said, "You better have something." I told him no. He then told me "You better get home then, get out of here" like I was some kid. Oh, I didn't mention it, but I was a foot taller than this kid and at least 10 years older as well. I then told him to go home as well, commenting that he was holding a toy gun and rode away.
So that was the first time I've been held up. The kid didn't get anything from me and I didn't get shot. It went well I supposed. I'm glad my judgement was good cause if that was a real gun, I would have been shot.
On the way home there was one of those radar signs set up that tells you how fast you are riding. It was set up in a construction zone so it was trying to get everyone to drive 25mph. No one in from of me was. Everyone was doing about 34. The sign kept blinking with their too fast speeds. When I got up to it, there were just two lights blinking and then it read 25mph and then went up to 26mph. That was pretty cool. I probably could have pushed harder, but that was awesome.
Last night I went to the Trumbullplex and watched Shortbus. Good movie, that Shortbus is. I got to watch the movie with an all girl group which I do so love. As a hetero-affectionate person I love women and as a genderqueer/femish male I love being on of the girls for a night. It was good times. If my current room mate situation doesn't work out, I am considering moving in there (even though it is going to be colder there this winter than where I currently am).
On the walk home, I saw Jo and she mentioned wanting to check out my place in order to possibly move in. So if Suneil moves out and Jo and Lindsey move in...Rock!
fuck'n yeah. Time to get to work.
