SPN 9x01: I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here [Dean Issues]

Oct 10, 2013 18:55

I'm not really in the mood for an in-depth analysis of the latest SPN episode (considering I wasn't even going to watch the show, but then I got bored), but there are some lines one shouldn't cross, and Dean hasn't just crossed it, he's leapt over it and charged on, so I can't keep quiet.

Sam needs an edition of this http://www.amazon.com/Toxic-Parents-Overcoming-Hurtful-Reclaiming/dp/0553381407 but re: Toxic Siblings

The more I think about it, the more sorry I feel for Sam. It's turned into a cautionary tale/horror story about how a family can fuck you over through emotional manipulation and controlling behaviour.

LOL, now I've made myself angry and I haven't even watched the ep.

ROFL)) Sam could actually write a book like that. If he ever does manage to overcome this.
I think Dean himself knows how fucked up all this is. He does look kind of like he knows when he's making that deal with Ezzy (his full name is too taxing to spell, yes XD), but that doesn't change that he's doing it!
D'aww))) This ep made me depressed. :(

I stopped watching this show a few episodes into season 5, but man. Why is this show not over yet? I really enjoyed the first 2 or 3 seasons, but I think there's something to be said for being smart enough to let a show go before it gets to this point.

I love the first 5 seasons of this show. Seasons 6-8 had their moments but were mostly disappointing. I hadn't even seen the finale of s8 but I know the spoilers, so I decided I could go straight to watching 9x01. Or rather: I tried to resist but I was bored and wanted to watch smth that wouldn't make me thing too hard. I ended up writing this meta. Juuust great. XD
I think the show's not over b/c it brings money. It still has high ratings. It's sad really... It's been ages since I wasn't angry with the show or its writers.

Yeah, I think that's definitely why it isn't over.

Didn't Kripke originally say he envisioned a 5 season arc, and then he left the show after season 5 in accordance with that? I don't know my SPN all that well so it's possible I'm making that up (and I don't always buy it when writers say that anyway, cause the Merlin writers said the same thing, right? And the 5 season arc they envisioned was still totally frustrating). But yeah, it really does suck watching stuff you loved hang on too long and go downhill. Sometimes it makes me glad that some of my favorite shows got cancelled when they did, just so I didn't have to see what they'd become by the time they hit season 9 or 10.

LOOOL, your icon is awesome. XD
Yes, he did! Looking back, I realize it might have been better if the show had ended the way s5 had.
Sometimes it makes me glad that some of my favorite shows got cancelled when they did, just so I didn't have to see what they'd become by the time they hit season 9 or 10. True. But then, BH still managed to disappoint me, and it was only 5 series long. XDDDD

Seeing how both show and large parts of the fandom still seem to think that Dean is so great, and that the relationship between him and Sam (or him and Cas while we're at it) is something desirable seriously scares me.

The show bothers me precisely because of that. I'm used to fandom being dumb and making up lame excuses on the basis of a character being hot or just popular, but when the show endorses this (as SPN clearly does in Dean's case), it becomes scary indeed. >_

I loved the angel arc in s4-5, but after that it just all went to hell. Why do they even bother building the angels up as a family if they constantly point out that only the Winchester family matters in the long run? Yes, we get it, Sam is important to Dean and vice versa, but uuuugh... toxic much? >_<
I did a marathon of S6-7 I'm in awe of your masochism. XD I think I only survived those seasons because I watched them in small doses, once a week. XD
I adore Castiel, Crowley and Bobby, but it's just like you said. :( This show has become repetitive and it completely ignores anything except the Winchesters' angst. That angst seemed justified in the early seasons but by now it's just annoying.
SPN let me down long before BH did, but yeah, it's pretty much the same story. :(
