Being Human: Rook's e-mails. Part 2

Feb 14, 2013 17:34

As a follow-up to my yesterday's post, let me gush about the Rookileaks Part 2 a.k.a. Rook's e-mails to Alistair. I said yesterday that I was dying to find out the latter's reaction to Rook's "confession". Well, it wasn't very spectacular, but still funny.

I love it that they keep making references to other familiar characters. This time it's Sykes and Emrys, and we learn that Rook is just as wary of ghosts as he is of vampires. Moreover, he's downright paranoid when it comes to ghosts:

"...we feared he [Sykes] was amassing a T1 army; an army we would be powerless to engage in battle, let alone defeat."

"A hostile ghost alliance could still be forming at this very moment."

I understand that paranoia is a job requirement. What I don't understand is what they can do about it. He tries to pressure Alistair into keeping the department open by telling him ghost stories and admitting at the same time that humans are powerless against ghosts. XD I understand trying to freak Alistair out with vampire stories; at least humans can kill vampires. XD
Speaking of the department itself, I keep forgetting that it does have an official name: Department of the Domestic Defence (a.k.a. DoDD). I guess it's a force of habit but I still call these guys MiG. Moreover, I have seriously overestimated their coolness factor. Rook is shaping up to be as much of a loser as Cutler was (now that I love him any less because of it), and don't even get me started on guys like Alan.
Rook mentions in his e-mail that due to budget cuts, he had to lay off security. To be honest, I'm wondering how the hell this department functions at all. There is no one in it. XD Not even the funny old Archivist Arthur that we saw in 4x08 (where is he? I miss him!).
Also: I refuse to believe that Rook still hasn't pieced together which Type 1 was messing about his office. Maybe it only seems obvious to me because I have all the facts as a viewer, but:

- In 5x01, Hal recognizes Rook and tells him: "I know you. The basement of a night club, a month or so ago. You took my friend's body!"
- At the end of 5x01, after the whole Fugly fallout, when Alex trolls Rook, he can clearly feel a presence. He's obviously not a psychic, he can't see ghosts, but he seems to feel them (in 4x08, when collecting Alex's body, he also acted like he felt her presence).

- Moreover, when they leave, Hal very clearly takes Alex by the elbow for a moment, and Rook is watching. Not very obvious on this print screen image, but it's the best I could do, seeing as I can't make gifs. >_<

He obviously knows that Alex exists. He already knew about Annie (he mentions her in the e-mails as Emrys's killer) and he knew that Hal had a friend whose body the DoDD had picked up earlier. He gave Hal his coordinates. Hal has a ghost friend. It's not a big leap that she might be disgruntled with Rook, hence all the dead fish in his office and suspicious e-mails. XD
My point is: when is he going to confront the trio with regards to all this? XD Because if he doesn't, I'll have to write it. XD No, but seriously! They have the lamest security ever in their department and Rook goes around giving out his details to an Old One who has ghost friends. Very smart, baby. XD

Finally, the last important matter of the e-mails. Titania. This is getting a bit ridiculous, but it brings me lulz, so what can you do? XD I do hope, however, that it wasn't Rook who had kidnapped Titania - because, honestly, that is extremely unprofessional and downright childish. If I were to create conspiracy theories, I'd imagine that Giles, the assistant, has a secret grudge against either Alistair or Rook, and he's framing Rook. XD (Somebody, stop me!))) I'm having way too much fun with this completely indiotic bit of trivia.) If Alex read the e-mails to Alistair, she might be involved, but I doubt it. >_<

Personally I would like to see Rook as more of an ally to the trio than an enemy. Not the friendly ally, more like... mutually beneficial for the time being. Given that a trinity is needed to stop the devil (you know, kidnapping a dog is still less ridiculous than summoning the devil and sticking him into the body of some guy who stole Mr Snow's teeth), it'd be a big mistake for Rook to fuck things up for them. If he thinks vampires and ghosts are bad, he should meet Hatch. XD
As a side note, I want someone to call Hal out on having been instrumental in summoning the devil. Like: why on earth would you think this was a good idea!? XDDD
