So, I've finally been watching Torchwood (thank you, James!!). I will admit it was entirely prompted by the new season of Doctor Who. We watched the Christmas special, and wanted to watch more, and this is what we had...
It's quite good. I rather like it. I certainly don't dislike it. But it isn't quite as fantastic as I was hoping (not really expecting) it would be.
I think the main problem is Cptn Jack Harkness. Sure he's cool. But... he's American-type cool, and that doesn't really appeal to me that much. If at all. Doctor Who appeals more because the Doctor is the type of guy (guys?) that I find cool.
Then, it's set on earth. My recent complaint about these new Doctor Who series is that there's too much on earth! so it's hard to warm to a similar show that entirely is. I think I'm more interested in alien worlds/societies than just bits and pieces of their technology and how they would affect us if we suddenly came across them.
It's also a bit too adult for me. I don't really mind this... entirely. Some parts I quite like, like the more personal deaths, but other things I could do without. (Sex-crazed aliens, for example.)
Gwen's fringe is too short.
Otherwise, it's great! And it's fun to watch. But better still...
... the new series of Doctor Who started yesterday!
I've been looking forward to it, and especially since I saw a preview of the first episode. I thought the new companion would be good, mostly because she's a medical student. No, I'm not a snob.
Okay, yes I am.
And she is good. I thought the first episode was fantastic. Especially since it wasn't set on earth... okay, only half true... Actually, what I liked most was how
the "police" weren't bothered about the humans at all... there was a threat to earth, but the real aggressive, scary-looking (if you can take rhinos seriously) alien guys were after the real menace to earth too. And of course the destroying earth (sorry, only half) was only coincidental, rather than horribly malicious take-over purpose.
Oh, and Martha's great.
This new Doctor has grown on me, too. At first I was a bit disappointed with him, but definitely not anymore. Even if he is a bit needy when it comes to girls.
And even if he does go around kissing everyone.
And even if he spends too much time on earth. He's back there next episode, too! Grr.
Love,
me
