[Mokuren is in her front yard, kneeling next to the young oak tree, with her ear to its trunk, muttering. She hasn't even bothered to get dressed this morning, and she's getting grass stains on her white nightgown. She looks haggard, as if she hasn't gotten enough sleep. She hits the tree once with her fist, as if that might get a reaction out of it.]

SAY SOMETHING! Anything! It's too quiet! [Predictably, the tree says nothing. Mokuren then tries to sing. A few pure notes hang in the air, but the song quickly devolves to sobs when nothing happens. Ironically, two of Mokuren's greatest wishes have been granted - and she hates it. Looks like you've got a crazy lady on your hands, Mayfield.]
