Dating Leonard was an adventure. While other couples stayed in Oxford for their dates, they often left town. Christa understood he was trying his best to spare Emony’s feelings, and she didn’t mind. Getting away from the university for a few hours was always nice.
One weekend, it was her turn to pick the date spot. Christa hadn’t had much time to think about it so she ushered Leonard into her car and started to drive south, taking them toward the Gulf.
They were soon pulling into Biloxi, where the night sky was lit by the casinos. Christa didn’t want to go to any of them so she continued to drive until they came to the coast.
Amongst all the large hotels was a small resort with cabins that looked like little dollhouses. The resort offered a breathtaking view of ocean and Christa knew she wanted to stay there for the weekend. For once, she didn’t want to care about homework and exams.
After checking in, they went to a local store to buy a few things before returning the cabin to make dinner. The grill outside was hard at first, but they both figured it and grilled the chicken and vegetables.
They ate on the back porch, a warm air coming off the ocean. As they ate, they spoke of the future and where they fit in. Christa knew she would have her degree before Leonard had his, but she promised him that night she would stand by his side as he became the doctor he was destined to become.
Once their meal was finished, they cleaned up and went to the beach for a walk. They rolled up the bottom of their jeans and walked in the warm Gulf water as they laughed and teased each other. It wasn’t long before they were standing still, the water lapping at their feet as they kissed under the night’s full moon.
When they got back to the cabin, they fell into the bed, laughing when the wooden frame creaked under them. They shifted, finding the perfect spot before they started to kiss again, this time their clothes coming off. as they did.
With their bodies pressed together, they moved together and made love several times before the both of them were spent. Curling against him, Christa smiled and allowed herself to be lulled asleep by the sound of the crickets chirping outside.
And as she fell asleep, she knew this was the most perfect date they’d ever had.
